When Kevin O'Leary took his teenage son, Trevor, to Europe, he flew first-class.
Trevor sat in the back, in economy.
While this might sound cruel and unfair, the "Shark Tank" investor wanted to teach his son a lesson about the value of money.
In his book, "Cold Hard Truth on Family, Kids and Money," the father of two explains, "One surefire way to nudge your teenagers into the workforce is by setting firm boundaries on what you will and will not pay for."
For him, that means drawing the line at luxury travel.
He writes:
At 16, my son is making the connection between money and personal freedom. I think that's the greatest gift I've ever given him: to help him see that connection. And I constantly reinforce it by doing Mean Dad things like making him sit in those ? economy seats.
O'Leary worked hard to get to the point where he could afford a first-class ticket. He took a $10,000 loan from his mother and used it to build a $4 billion business.
"At this point in my life, I think I've earned the right to a more comfortable travel experience," he writes.
But his son hasn't.
O'Leary told his son that he could fly first class any time that he liked, so long as he paid for it with money that he earned himself.

lots of multi million/billionaires do this.. i think it's cool to in a small sense teach your child "build your own" Givin his children will have great connections but the message is still there.. -
Naw, that sound like a ? move.
why so?
he said his son has to earn the right to be in first class.
i agree. -
Sounds to me more like tough love than anything. Clearly he's trying ro motivate his son, rather than him become complacent through the convenience of inherited wealth.
You can disagree with his method, but there's definitely love behind it imo -

Bill Gates does the same thing, or so I've heard. He wants his kids to work hard and know the value of money.
But on the other hand... The kid is only 16 and most likely unemployed. Let him fly at least once.

They bet not complain either... i caught lice on a Greyhound Bus when i was a kid

Or say it was for people the color of cockroaches?
this show ? on alot of black ideas.
saw one show the black chick came up with a luxury dog clothes line...they said it was stupid
then they said a lil white girls idea of a decorated bottle cap was good ...
then alot of people try to ? on damon ..like he doesnt have the knowledge. i have seen clothing lines try to work with someone else rather than the man who made his money from clothes.
i stopped watching the show after that...? was just stupid -
? those first class seats. I still be uncomfortable plus I don't use the perks or eat dinner because I'm sleep most of the time and they still serve ? breakfast.

So at home he doesn't live in the mansion?

First class or coach they both land at the same time. Be thankful you're even on a plane going anywhere. That in itself is a luxury that some will never experience.

being thankful yes......i agree.
but depending on the flight its not the same......
when im in economy i feel the drops different than when i am stretched out in first class. the position of the body affects the drops differently..
but i understand...you still dropping -

Exactly
That's like my dad saying "yeah I bought them a Super Nintendo & all the game they want, but I'm making them hook it up themselves, I'm not trying to spoil my kids."
No one would take him seriously. -
Not to derail the thread but how does a black person catch lice
