Brownsville, Brooklyn is a legendary Hip-Hop locale. The same streets that raised Mike Tyson have afforded Rap music some of its most rugged sounds, courtesy of M.O.P., Heltah Skeltah, and Smoothe Da Hustler, among others. In the mid-1990s, both Mash Out and Heltah were working with fellow Brooklynites Da Beatminerz, but the crews did not regularly collaborate.
Twenty years later, as both acts (collectively and individually) have stayed strong, Sean P reveals that he’s at work with M.O.P.’s Lil Fame (a/k/a Fizzy Womack). In an interview this month with the Southern Vanguard Radio show, Sean P discussed his upcoming, Stevie Wonder-inspired mixtape, Songs In The Key Of Price (August 21). The Ruck Down Records release will be followed by a project produced by Fizzy, who over the last decade, has provided beats to AZ, Ghostface Killah, and Cormega, in addition to producing the bulk of Fizzyology, with Termanology. Both artists have worked extensively with ShowOff Records’ Statik Selektah in recent years.
(25:00) Providing Jon Doe and crew some snippets via the phone, Sean explains “That’s the me and Lil Fame’s ? .” Following an already compelling interview on Sean’s motives for switching from Ruck to his government name, the Monkey Barz album, and his ability to test his own industry-temperature, he explains. “It’s all Lil Fame, he’s the one producing. I’m doing a ? -load of rapping. It’s like a Fame producer album, but he do’ the choruses. I’m rhymin’ on it. He made all the beats. It’s crazy.”
Additional details were not made public. Sean’s last studio album was 2012’s Mic Tyson, which debuted at #58 on the Billboard Top 200.
