That Johnny Cash song is some 'straight pour out a little liquor' type ? . I actually like it. -

No they didn't considering Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" came out in 2002 which was a cover of the Nine Inch Nails song which came out in 1994. So technically they sampled the Nine Inch Nails version -

Either way........It's the same damn song, which is what I originally said in my post.

i had a pretty well made bootleg tee of the album cover..

The album pretty much set fire on New York magazine critics with any bias against West Coast Hip Hop, i.e. The Source especially because back then(before the Benzino/Eminem beef) they had a certain standard on music tastes to determine whether an album was deemed classic or not.
With biases all aside though, they actually got 4.5 mics for that album...not only East Coast publications got lit up, but DJs that wasn't showing love to West Coast Hip Hop in the clubs, those MCs who had an uppity attitude(the scene in "Straight Outta Compton" when those NY rappers were trying to downplay the West during the "Boyz In The Hood" session) can bring you up to the idea of why that album was the boiling point. Plus disses from Tim Dog, Capone and Noreaga and Common (I Use To Love H.E.R was taken as a diss on West Coast ? the rap game up) didn't help..
"Use to love her, mad 'cause we ? her/? whipped ? with no common sense".
Cube got love from the Bomb Squad on "AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted" but even after that the rest of his albums sonically was strictly West purposely..as far as Pac's comments, we just say that ? was just ? off his hatred for Bad Boy and wanted all the glory. -

"Do you listen to music or just skim through" I'm assume you fall into the latter category considering even though it's the same song it's still musically and topically different. Like for instance the original was about Trent Reznor's addiction to Heroin. -

I have to agree with @Rampage12 generally id agree a song is the same, if its the same tune and melody and overall feel. if one person is basically covering the original then it's the same "song" but if you were expecting to hear this

But instead a guy performed this...

I don't think you can say welp that's the same song. For instance if a song had sampled a traditional orchestra performance of star spangled banner I wouldn't be like yooo they sampled this....And then play you jimi hendrixs version.jimi added too much too it. Just like cash did with this nin song.
Just my opinion.
Anyway to play the cash version as inspiration for Westside connection is disingenuous when they clearly never heard that version which is very different. -

When Cube was making gangsta rap records 2Pac was trying to be some weird mixture of Cube and Chuck D.
Hilarious. Also how 2Pac gon diss N.Y. and be from N.Y.? Cornball ass ? .
what are u talking about Homillz.?.
when Pac was dropping Cube N Chuck D style records. Cubes was doing the same thang in 91...
and Cubes been was exposed to the East Vs West ? , and he was mute about it..
DJ quik was riding on Tim Dogg in 91', when Tim Dogg dissed Cali, where was Cubes then?
Pac ain't from NY ,he's from Oakland... it ain't about where u was born. If anything, Pac was more Baltimore than Ny.
Tim Dogg gave Cube props in those NWA disses. -

You don't know what a sample is? It's a chunk of an actual recording. -

I'm a big Cube fan but Cube is a known biter/jump on what's hot kind of artist. Having said that, Pac was being very hypocritical cuz his early albums were definitely Cube-influenced. -
Regarding Bowdown, a solid record, I think Cube did some of the production. not a classic tho.

It was probably around 6 or 7 years ago. Who knows people always have a change of heart, especially rock stars. I'd still perform it if I was Trent because even though I think Johnny's version is superior it's still his song.
