There were a few different Mr Magics. There was this guy, then there was a radio announcer named Mr Magic in the 80s who had a show on WBLS. Then there's another Mr Magic that was on No Limit.
This guy appears to be from Connecticut. I wonder if he's the first rapper from Connecticut?
But as far as I know, this was the original rapper named Mr Magic, Grover Washington Jr notwithstanding.
