Someone on Reddit came up with this a a theory...
[Hey Arnold] Pigeon Man committed suicide in front of Arnold.

At the end of the Pigeon Man episode of Hey Arnold, they return to Pigeon Man's rooftop pigeon coop to find it has been destroyed by vandals. Pigeon man gives a candid existential speech about never understanding people and relating more to birds as he walks nearer to the edge of the roof. Everything he's worked toward, everything he has lived for has been destroyed. He has no place in society and it feels like society doesn't even want him. He's disgusted by a world full of cruelty and hatred.
He steps to the ledge of the roof and jumps off, but Arnold cannot cope with such a traumatic memory, so he creates his own new understanding of what happened.
and if you watch the scene....it seems distressingly legit.
