They are one of the indigenous people on the Island, one of the first to leave Africa (55,000 years ago). They lost 3/4th of their population due to outsiders contact starting in 1998 (they had little to no immunity to the likes of measles, gonorrhea, etc). They're no longer hostile to outsiders as they were before. The highway through Jarawa reserve which was built in 1970s has ultimately led to what human right watchers call "the human safari". In recent years, the Jarawa women have suffered a lot sexual abuse, illegal poaching by outsiders, been introduced to alcohol and drugs by the Indian settlers who out number them by 1,000 to 1. They're currently considered the most endangered people.

They are so beautiful. What can we do to protect these people from afar?jarawa-tribe.jpg?w=500
