M Night Shyamalan is re-booting classic series Tales from the Crypt as part of a bigger deal with TNT that will see the mood maestro programme a two hour block of horror and suspense content once a week. The block will feature both short and long form content, with the new Tales from the Crypt the centrepiece offering. Based on the original EC Comics by William Gaines as well as new stories, Shyamalan will exec produce each of the tales with Ashwin Rajan, his partner at Binding Edge Pictures. Endgame Entertainment’s James D. Stern (Looper) is exec producing along with Aloris Entertainment’s John Santilli and Dan McKinnon. The original comics spun off multiple seasons for HBO’s cult show. The programme will launch this fall.

“This is a new genre for us in our series efforts and a great chance to partner with M Night Shyamalan, whose blockbuster hit The Visit reminded movie audiences and critics this past summer that he truly is a master of horror,” said TNT evp of original programming Sarah Aubrey.

Shyamalan is enjoying something of a renaissance. The Visit, about a single mother who finds that things in her family’s life go very wrong after her two young children visit their grandparents, made almost $100 million worldwide off a budget of $5 million, which the director fully financed. Wayward Pines, the TV series Shyamalan exec produced and directed the pilot for, has also been a ratings winner for Fox. He is currently in post on Split, starring James McAvoy.

TBS also announced today a hat-trick of new shows. People of Earth, a comedy about a support group for alien abductees from Conan O’Brien Greg Daniels and Jeff Ross along with David Kissinger and Larry Sullivan. David Jenkins created the show, penned the pilot and serves as series co-exec producer. The cast includes Wyatt Cenac, Ana Gasteyer and Oscar Nuñez.

TBS’ new show Angie Tribeca is debuting with an all-day, all-night 25 hour launch with special guests including Rashida Jones, Hayes MacArthur, Jere Burns and Andrée Vermeulen. The show is hosted by Deon Cole, who plays Detective DJ Tanner in an unconventional police procedural.

Conan O’Brien also has a special Conan in Qatar episode coming down the pipelines featuring O’Brien’s recent trip with First Lady Michelle Obama to U.S. troops stationed at the Al Udeid Air Base in Doha. That show, the latest in a series of foreign excursions for the flame haired comedian, airs Jan. 25.
