Question for the younger cats, being that hip hop sampled a lot, and a lot of older artists are my age, so we all heard the same music growing up. So that means we heard a lot of these songs first hand when our parents had parties and we still had music class in school to learn how to play instruments. But do you think the talent pool has dropped since they don't teach music anymore and todays artists not even musically inclined to make songs to be sampled in the future because songs don't have soul anymore and soul is enduring

idk if I agree with equating the talent pool with soul. But I agree that that soulful nature is what is missing in a lot of the music today in terms of commercialization or what you may come in contact with on a day to day basis. I believe tge music we enjoy with soul or the soulful nature exists and is out there, we just have to find it.
That's a great question to ponder though. -
Riding in the whip for long period of time, I'll throw these one and who ever is riding with me, will play a game where you try to either name the sample or name all the tracks that have sampled the sample. Dope listen.

I guess I mean by talent is more than just dancing and singing, but yeah, they churn these artists out like a factory with no real work behind them. Most musicians are prodigies -

Preemo broke the song down into 3 samples, it's Jeru's verse, the 3rd one when he used that Charles Mingus "The Clown" and it was used in a car commercial once
