In a move that sounds like an April Fools’ Day joke but isn’t, development has begun on a sequel to Sicario, and everyone keeps referring to it as Sicario 2. An interview at The Hollywood Reporter with Black Label Media producers Molly Smith and twins Thad and Trent Luckinbill (those are their real names, also not an April Fool’s Day joke) unearthed the nugget that the team behind Demolition has already started in on the project they call Sicario 2, continuing the long and bitter battle to secure the Mexican-American border from drug runners. And just as the so-called War on Drugs ran into perpetuity with no viable end in sight, so shall this unlikely hit about the tangled morals of international law continue for as long as the money stays green.
As far as unexpected, questionably necessary sequels go, however, this one sounds pretty promising. First and most importantly, the producers have managed to secure the involvement of original stars Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin for the film. What’s more, they’ve reportedly already received a script from the original scribe Taylor Sheridan. The Black Label Media folks understood the importance of keeping the essential personnel together, secure in their knowledge that it’d be the only way to accurate reproduce the tone that endeared the film to audiences the first time around. “Taylor's a really great world-builder. He's got that kind of modern Western voice, which is in vogue right now. And he did it again [with the sequel],” said Trent. The trio went on to express an interest in fleshing out Benicio del Toro’s dark, enigmatic hitman, exploring what happens to him after he takes his violent revenge on the narco responsible for making his life a living hell.
We’re all guilty of complaining about sequel saturation and the dearth of new ideas in Hollywood, but at last, here’s a sequel project that feels like a logical continuation of story instead of a studio’s cash grab. Next stop on the gravy train for quiet triumphs of 2015 film: Crimson Peak 2!

? every single one of you regardless if your guilty of this or not. -

Doesn't feel like this film needed a sequel, but if they get the same director back then I'll be on board too.

yea doesnt really need a sequel, but why not. theres enough stories about mexican drug trade to make a million movies.

A prequel with benicio del toro and josh brolin would be dope. I remember hearing months ago that he was getting a standalone film with that character but I guess not.
Technically they could still do that using the same cast. -

If the original director doesn't return then it doesn't matter, i've seen all his films and he's become top 10 of all time to me...only watching Blade runner on the strength of his catalog.
