With the debuts of The Match Game and The $100,000 Pyramid, it seems like the game show revival is going strong. Ice Cube is looking to get in on the fun but with a hip-hop angle, of course. The rap legend will be executive producing a hip-hop version of the classic game show Hollywood Squares.
Hip Hop Squares will air on VH1, which has already ordered 20 episodes. “Hip Hop Squares is going to be fun and spontaneous; unlike typical game shows, viewers should never know what’s going to happen next,” Cube told The Hollywood Reporter.
Contestants on the show will answer a range of questions asked by hip-hop, comedy and entertainment personalities.
The original Hollywood Squares, which began in 1966 and ran through 2004, was basically a cross between tic-tac-toe and a quiz show. Nine celebrities each occupied a square constructed like a tic-tac-toe board. Contestants had to strategically choose which celebrity asked them a question so they could claim that square (if they got the answer right). The winner wast he player who got three squares in a row.
No word yet on when Hip Hop Squares will debut.
