if they made a group of the dudes who were just sidekicks to the main attraction or group never to really have any MAJOR success as a solo act compared to their group or main act association.......who would be the nicest?

Mase had pretty major solo success, i can't call him a side kick

had he not left to hit up the church he prolly coulda rocked longer...

    i shoulda added Drag-on though

I almost didn't add AZ, but compared to Nas' success....it's just weird as ? that he was so far in the background

even thought i was one of the few to cop AZ's album......only one who knew the words to sugar hill

Eventhough he's the biggest artist in the world, Drake is a sidekick.

snoop and drake both had major solo success, so they're not a part of the conversation

but puff is hardly a rapper, that was all mase...especially when both his solo albums went plat

mase success is relatively major, and he woulda gotten on regardless vs a guy like jim jones who never would ahave gotten on without cam getting on first.....

everybody i listed, i don't think we ever woulda heard of them if it wasn't for the first name associated with them when you hear about them....

maybe freeway or sheek, but the rest i don't think woulda have ever even jumped on so much as a mixtape if it wasn't for the main attraction they were attached to.....

    i definitely shoulda included drag-on......

off the bat I disqualified , Jim Jones . U ? , Ferg , and Sheek . They were full fledged members of powerful groups. not really side kicks. Disqualified Freeway for same reason plus he had solo success. Didn't leave many choices. Could have choosen Bleek. But he had solo success..To me the only true side kick on the list was Spliff

AZ would be offended if he saw this thread.

    why would he??

AZ was clearly Nas's side kick in the early days.....lyrical as ? ....but still.....dude had that one album Do or Die, and after that it was all minor releases that only his die hards copped....

So we're only counting sidekicks with moderate success.

I don't think AZ viewed himself as a "sidekick" nor was he a sidekick just because he had lesser success than Nas. People like Drag On, Spliff Starr, Lil Cease, and Bleek were sidekicks.

    pretty much......

out of the ones i posted, i think it's arguable jim jones had the most success with that one track we fly high....AZ is clearly the most lyrical....and maybe Freeway put together the best solo effort, but even he can't really stand alone....even thought his first album was a classic

sheek always considered the weakest link of the lox, but some people like him the most, but i think it's clear, solo he had the least amount of success

    u-? ....lol

spliff star tried to drop a few solo tracks, but people ain't even know

cease was hot when with kim or big, but he also dropped an album.....and i don't think anyone knew

and today, i'd be a lie if i ain't say ferg hot... but i strongly feel he's today's tony yayo... ? woulda never checked for him if it wasn't for rocky

Aye but Bleek was more than all those names combined. He was mad successful on his own. Definitely the most successful ROC member outside of Kanye West. Iuno if I'd call him a sidekick.

    :joy:

i copped his first album too, but bruh.....

I don't think U ? was a sidekick, feel how you want about him as a rapper, but he was an equal to everybody else in the clan except Rza and Gza who were the leaders.
