Jay Z allegedly enters the fray in the battle for the rights to Prince's vault.
When he died of an accidental drug overdose in April, Prince left behind what it is rumored to be a massive vault of unreleased music and no will indicating what should be done with it.
Negotiations for the rights to this music are still ongoing. According to TMZ, Jay Z flew out Prince's sister and her husband to New York City several weeks ago and submitted a bid of $40 million for the rights to the vault. The report mentioned that Hov is also seeking to lock down "the overall deal for streaming rights." Prince, a notoriously difficult negotiator wit throughout his career, was a vocal supporter of TIDAL and signed an exclusive deal with the streaming company briefly before his death. In June, TIDAL added 15 Prince albums to its exclusive catalogue.
According to a conflicting report from Billboard, L. Londell McMillan, a representative of Prince's estate, has “no knowledge of any discussions in that report." McMillan asserted that Prince's estate is considering offers for the artist's music to be licensed, not purchased. Another source told Billboard that Warner Music is the front-runner to obtain the licensing rights. Next month, with the release of a 40-track greatest hits album called Prince 4Ever, they will become the first company to release Prince's music since his death.

Only 40 million tho?
-
Hope he gets it too..
? Warner bros -
He won't get it them big labels gonna put up that paper
-
If Mike was alive this was already gonna be bought.
-
? any streaming service buying Princes catalog to make it "exclusive" to a specific service. Pus 40 mill is a lowball offer.
-
He'd make it right back too
-
40 is a lot for just the unreleased music .....
Hell he only put up 56 for Tidal
what's up with the catalog...does Tidal still have exclusive streaming? -
Man Prince will probably make that off one album. Seems low
-
It's just a bid if truedalyricalbandit wrote: »He won't get it them big labels gonna put up that paper
Most record labels are broke the only competition is Interscope. A smaller label like RocNation can better utilise the catalogue and Jay is rich enough with Beyonce to get enough credit to buy out competing bids. If 40 is a starting bid he's prolly looking to drop 120 mil at the most.
Sony, Universal, and Warner are broke now.

it's the unreleased music. ? could be 85 albums worth of him moaning and groaning to a drum machine, doesn't mean it's gonna be great just cause it's prince.
probably still will be pretty good tho no lie -
Plenty of people(close to him) have said he has songs of purple rain caliber in the vault..Songs he just threw in there because he felt they wasn't good enough or they didn't fit the theme of a album he was working on...Even more strange, people have said that he used to record great songs and erase them right after...
Princes mind was out there bruh

Thats some lowball ? .

How is 40 million for unreleased music lowball. It's not like he is buying his whole catalog.

But his released music is already exclusive to a streaming service. You basically saying ? Prince right along with Tidal, and with that being said, ? you. -

? outta here
His released music can still be purchased through CD's and digitally you can buy his albums outside tidal (just streaming). If he made prince vault music exclusive through tidal and didn't allow it to be sold in stores physically that ? would be against everything prince was about (just saying if he did it not accusing)
As far as prince he hoped (key word hoped) that Tidal would be a platform where artists could make more money off their content so he trusted jay before he died as the streaming exclusive. However Tidal still is not giving small or mid tier artists ? compared to spotify and apple music. All Tidal is doing is paying big time artists for content so the richer artists get richer. Not to mention all summer tidal has been exposed financially. -
Then get Tidal ? an shut tha ? up. Ima download the ? illegally if it ain't on my service of choice, no harm, no foul. You on the other hand, are gonna cry about it... A streaming service... Smfh

It has nothing to do with me signing up for any service. It's the principle of any streaming service potentially trying to make unreleased music of a legend who passed only available through their streaming site and not in a physical CD or digital download. Most likely wont happen but if it does it's ? up. I am not crying or starting a riot just staying my opinion. -

Sounded like he recorded for himself -

I too felt that was a bit low. Dude has hundreds of completed songs vaulted. Granted, some of them probably aren't great, but it's unheard prince and will always sell. -

Prince's Record Label Sues Jay Z's Roc Nation
Prince's NPG Records is suing Roc Nation for overstepping an agreement Prince signed with them before his death. According to the docs, Prince made a deal for Roc Nation to stream -- through Tidal -- the last album he released before his death ... "Hit N Run: Phase 1."
But NPG says Roc Nation decided it also had the greenlight to stream almost all of Prince's catalog, and started doing that on June 7, 2016 ... which would have been his 58th birthday.
NPG says none of that streaming was authorized and it's now suing Roc for copyright infringement, and also to block any continued streaming of his music ... outside of that final album.
They don't mention a specific dollar amount, but the damages would be enormous. According to the docs ... Tidal jacked "I Wanna Be Your Lover," "1999," "Little Red Corvette," "Cream," "Purple Rain," "Controversy," "Pop Life," ... just to skim the surface.
Seriously, the list goes on for more than 3 full pages.

LOL was actually thinking this........it was unreleased for a reason. Maybe just wasn't finished or he didn't like it afterwards.
