You'll have to forgive me for not being up on current events but it seems as though Denzel has had enough of the ? . Lately he's been dropping gems here and there. Has he done this throughout his career?
I have a feeling something happened behind the scene because he seems "woke" as fugg or he just recently got his ? wake up call and now feel the need to speak out. With age comes those reflective years maybe he's just now realizing he could have done more. Perhaps it's how his film Fences has been promoted.

I'm not going to lie, I used to be a fan of SOME of his movies, mainly his tony ja/action films , but now pulp fiction is making sense.... -
