One of Donald Trump's very-very-first official acts in office was to declare the day of his own inauguration a "NATIONAL DAY OF PATRIOTIC DEVOTION". This particular proclamation reads like the winning entry of a junior high school essay contest, which given his team's past history may or may not be where he got it from.

NATIONAL DAY OF PATRIOTIC DEVOTION

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

A new national pride stirs the American soul and inspires the American heart. We are one people, united by a common destiny and a shared purpose.

Freedom is the birthright of all Americans, and to preserve that freedom we must maintain faith in our sacred values and heritage.

Our Constitution is written on parchment, but it lives in the hearts of the American people. There is no freedom where the people do not believe in it; no law where the people do not follow it; and no peace where the people do not pray for it.

There are no greater people than the American citizenry, and as long as we believe in ourselves, and our country, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 20, 2017, as National Day of Patriotic Devotion, in order to strengthen our bonds to each other and to our country -- and to renew the duties of Government to the people.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twentieth day of January, in the year of our Lord two thousand seventeen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-first.

Funny. I've always felt that black people are low key the most patriotic people the US has. The others have a history of being selective and wishy washy.

Just a thought, but to me it seems like clever way to eventually overwrite MLK day over the long term (white wash history).

I'd like to see how this plays out in the next two years...

Also im interested to see how February plays out...being black history month and all..
Wouldn't be surprised if its declared All Americans month or something.

None of that statement especially the bold was meant for black people. Just like the laws when the constitution was written wasn't written with black people in mind.

holy kim Jung un batman.. in before the national haircut...

i just listened to his innagural address yesterday that coupled with this is a call for obedience.. "the red blood of Patriotism" and the devotion to the flag.. are um.... red flags.. hearing 3rd world countryesque 4 and 8 years ago was hyperbole, racial coding and idiocy..

The thing that are being proposed to be enacted fit that bill..

    Deregulation
    Military heavy cabinet
    Oligarchy ideals
Grim outlook and espousing law in order in the fashion he has
    Bring back the military.... seriously
Studio Audience at a presser ...... at the CIA

People speak on the cliche of if Trump wins America wins.. i dont subscribe to that the direction some people want to take this country in is dangerous.. whats more dangerous is these people willing and eager to be herded....

we are in a post truth, post critically thinking moment... the abundant obedience has the markings of real grim ?

    Apparently, Obama did something similar.
President Trump's "National Day of Patriotic Devotion" (formally entered into the Federal Register on 24 January 2017) didn't differ all that much from President Obama's 20 January 2009 "National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation" in as much as it mentioned faith, was issued concurrently with a first-term inauguration, used heavily patriotic language, and bore primarily symbolic weight.

? we fought in every single war America has been in and we were consider 3/5 of a human and are treated like ? from the very government and country we fought for. It's one of the main reasons I would never serve for this country.

    a) The implication of "patriotic devotion" is that people should be blindly subservient to the gov't.

    b) Where was this "patriotic devotion" over the past 8 years? The fact that it only seems to apply now that he is in power hints at despotism.

Whether it's the case or not is immaterial since Trump himself created this narrative throughout his campaign. The time for giving him the benefit of the doubt is long past.

patriotic - having or expressing devotion to and vigorous support for one's country.
devotion - love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity, or cause.

    Didn't read yet ...

    1) If Obama did something like this, it's also stupid IMO

    2) Given the body of evidence, I am going to go out on a limb and hypothesize that Trump's intent was significantly more self-agrandizing than Obama's
