this was actually announced a while ago but I just found out now

This past year in cinema has seen the release of an impressive range of horror films including relentless chiller The Witch as well as one very unexpected sequel.

One original property that impressed critics and audiences alike was Don't Breathe, the home invasion nailbiter with a twist that saw the criminals become the hunted after messing with sTEPHEN Lang's terrifying Blind Man.

Director Fede Alvarez has a sequel mapped out. He told ComingSoon: “We just started, but we know exactly where it goes. But we won’t tell you right now. But there will be more Don’t Breathe for sure.”

While a follow-up is an exciting prospect, it'd be a shame to see this become a franchise milked for all its worth a la Saw and paranormal activity.

Still, seeing a group of privileged teens punished for their crime by finding themselves at the mercy of Lang's Blind Man is always going to be worth a watch; let's just hope he's got rid of any turkey basters lying around the house.

Alvarez, who directed 2013's Evil Dead remake, is attached to direct a Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel which will adapt the fourth book in the Millennium series, The Girl in the Spider's Web.

2016 was a big year for horror with other releases including sleeper hit Lights Out, South Korean zombie thriller Train to Busan and Under the Shadow, an Iranian tale which found its way onto The Independent's scariest films list.
