I can think of two; KRS and Eminem
KRS was one of my favorite MCs in High School. He had thought provoking lyrics and I thought he was a so-called "conscious MC" (whatever that means). As I got older I realized that the white man was using KRS as a ? . They propped him up and gave him the moniker "the teacher" and put him on the cover of The Source. But in hindsight, his message was ambiguous. He went from Stop The Violence In Hip Hop to throwing PM Dawn off the stage...to battling Nelly and losing.
KRS always said that knowledge of African history is important, which I admired when I was 15. Now that I'm in my 40s, I realize that money management is more important than African history. All things considered Jay Z's message makes more sense than KRS's message, whatever it is. Criminal Minded is still a classic though.
As far as Slim Shady, I had Eminem ranked because he sold a lot of records and he was nice with the pen. But in all honesty, I never really dug his music. He has a few songs I like but not enough and according to his fans, he hasn't dropped a solid album in almost 15 years.

Eminem... When I was a teen, I was a big fan, now I barely listen to his music, even his earlier albums

Nore during CNN War Report was in my top ten from his TONY verse.
Prodigy was top Ten until HNIC.
Methodman when he stopped slurring his spit between breathes and tried to be a punline rapper.
Busta Rhymes when he got diesel.
DMX when the ? started to show three albums in.
Mos Def when he backed down from Lupe Fiasco. -

Eminem

Eminem stuff aged horribly and now he just screams on every song
-
Em and Wayne, 50, Game, tons of rappers that used to be on it but are putting out lukewarm material
-
Question for those that removed DMX from their top ten..........I'm curious to know who you replaced him with and what your top ten looks like now.
-
Mos Def at one point was on there just off Black On Both Sides & Blackstar alone. Output been average ever since. Em fell off it too the last few months.

I would question the two bolded. I actually like Rae better than Ghost.
See how I'm not laughing at your selections that I disagree with?....I just simply have a different opinion. -
Face has better body of work than Rae. And Rae is currently my favorite wu member. Thought is mad underrated. His work shows.
