Quentin Tarantino seems to have decided what his next film project will be - a drama centred on the Manson Family murders.

Deadline reports that the filmmaker has approached Margot Robbie for the role of Sharon Tate, the actress and wife of director Roman Polanski who was murdered at her home in 1968 by members of the infamous Manson Family.

Tate, hailed one of Hollywood's promising stars, was eight-and-a-half months pregnant at the time.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tarantino wants his Inglourious Basterds lead Brad Pitt to star - potentially as the investigation's lead detective - as well as Jennifer Lawrence.

Tarantino's regular collaborator Samuel L. Jackson is also said to be slated for a lead role. It'd mark their seventh time working together.

Should the filmmaker move ahead with the Manson Family murders film, it will be his first feature since The Hateful Eight which was released January 2016. Tarantino has been vocal in the past about retiring after making his tenth film - depending on how yu count ? Bill Vol 1 and 2, this next project could be one of his last.

Robbie is set to reprise her role of Harley Quinn in DC sequel Suicide Squad 2 and female-led ensemble Gotham City Sirens.
