The child support system is disgusting. Look at the ? they do.

A Texas court has ruled that a Houston man who is not the father must pay $65,000 in child support to the mother of a teenage girl he's only met once.
Gabriel Cornejo, of Cypress, Texas, a father-of-three who is also raising two of his brother's children, says he only found out his ex claimed he was the father of her 16-year-old girl, last year.

But even after a paternity test proved he wasn't the father, Cornejo is still being held liable for unpaid child support because a court says he did not contest the paternity suit when his former girlfriend first submitted it in 2003.

Cornejo, originally from Panama, insists he was never notified about his ex's claims at the time and is hoping to overturn the ruling when the case goes to court next month.

...

His ex is still demanding that he pays what now totals $65,000 for the child, that is not his.

She first went to a Texas court in 2003 claiming Cornejo was the only possible father.

Her lawyer, Carel Stith, claims Corneo got a subpoena which he ignored, and some child support was taken from his paycheck long ago which he never fought it.

Cornejo claims he never received a subpoena and was not aware about the claim until last year.

But the court has taken his ex's side and unless he can convince another judge to change the order, he will face a bill of tens of thousands of dollars.

...

'They say he should have fought back then and he failed to do so,' his lawyer Cheryl Coleman said. 'But how can you fight something you don't know anything about?'

If he fails to pay, he could land in jail.

'Don't stick your head in the sand,' the girl's mother's lawyer said. 'It won't go away and there can be consequences even if you don't do anything.'

Cornejo describes himself as the owner of GP Custom Works car shop in Texas, and appears to be a family on his Facebook page, sharing lots of pictures of himself with his kids and wife.

There is a story like this in detroit. The man is under registered as a dead beat dad law. He has taken a paternity test, results 0.00. The mother has even confessed that the man is not the father and that she simply used his name on the forms she needed to file to be eligible to receive welfare benefits. The judge still has him marked as dead beat dad and still seeking back child support and jail time. Guess common sense is bot required to be a judge...

Basically what Im getting from this is back in 2003 there was a paternity suit. He didnt contest (that would have been a great time to get the test) So she won. Later I guess he did get a paternity test. Good for him...but it apparently doesnt mean anything until and unless he goes through the right channels with it. Im no lawyer but that is probably where he needs to start. Unstead of being some victim like "they said I have to pay and I lose and thats it". I get people saying "but it was shown he wasnt the father" ok now get it straightened out legally because there's already a legal ruling. And the not recieving the subpoena part, again he needs to talk to a lawyer. Seems he has a lot of ground to stand on...if he goes about it effectively.

Yeah, he has a lawyer now though. That last part of the quote is from his lawyer (Cheryl Coleman).

Picture some ? write in some random dude's name in as the father and he don't get the letter... he'd be going through this ? . Pure ? .

wanna get really ? ? Read this:

    http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19901216&slug=1109727
A man who spent more than three months as a hostage in Iraq was jailed the day after he returned home on charges of failing to pay child support.

Bobby Sherrill, 39, a Parkton native who now lives in Meridian, Miss., spent about 3 1/2 hours in the county jail last Thursday before District Judge Sol Cherry released him without bond after he made the back payments. He arrived home from Iraq on Wednesday.

``I'd rather be here than there,'' he said Thursday from jail.

Sherrill owed $1,425 in child-support payments to his estranged wife, Terri Sherrill, of Swansboro, court records show. They have two children.
