I was listening to Saafir's Light Sleeper which came out in 1994 and it doesn't sound like a 1994 record to me. Sounds like something that would've came out around 2003-2006.

Was I the only one who thought he was biting Jeezy with that song? Heck I thought it was jeezys song when it first came on. TI usually doesn't do that slow delivery in his flow and use a lot of ad libs

I'm saying sonically it don't sound like anything else that was out at the time. -
Racks by young chris and future. That song is still 10 years ahead of anything today. Its very influential to hip hop culture. Racks gave birth to drill rap and mumble rap. Racks is the real cutoff point from the soulja boy era to what we are in now. It was a YC solo in 2009 and future hopped on remix in 2010. Nothing sounded like it at the time. After racks thats when rappers fired rb hook singers and started that sing songy drug addict track building formula. Rappers did they own hooks with minimalistic bass driven beats and its still like that today.
Flockavelli 1 is another project that was ahead of its time -

u might laugh but i think gorilla zoe was a bit ahead of his time
its a good bit of autotune half singing trap songs out now, zoe was actually good at that ? , and he had a few songs leaning toward a pop lane as well -
