wow, tough choice honestly lol Hov never dropped 2 albums in a year, and after vol. 2 they've all been pretty much "good-wack-good-wack-good-wack" right up to BP3.

Jay Z and I agree with the person who said that DMX was the 50 Cent of his time. Both X and 50 are decent rappers, lyrically, but this thread is about the better rapper overall. Their runs, who dominated what in '97-'99 is irrelevant. Overall, Jay Z is the far better rapper than DMX. DMX is nowhere near Jay lyrically even if you rank depth higher than technical skill. Flow wise, DMX definitely wasn't seeing Jay Z and as a technical MC, Jay Z was clearly better. Again, DMX was no slouch, but he wasn't even a top lyricist during his prime.

DMX shredded JayZ in a battle when they were younger (in Jay's lyrical prime).... and it wasn't an I'm talking ? about your flaws battle, it was a real battle, where you just show off your lyrical prowess....
Not to mention JayZ ruined his own legacy. He's so bad right now, he's arguably getting out shined by Kanye on ever track, and Kanye can't even rap.
