What are some good British/UK made or based movies? Gangster and comedy.

Recently watched Dead Man Running (w/ 50 Cent) which was pretty good. And the original Death at a Funeral.

I've just listed some British films I think everyone should watch but if you're only up for gangster flicks and comedies then gangster (or near enough) films are in red and comedies (again, or near enough) are in blue

    Trainspotting ("Choose life")
Shallow Grave (Danny Boyle's first film)
    Zulu (Zulus, thaaasands of them)
28 Days Later (Zombies, thaaasands of them)
28 Weeks Later (Americans arrive and ? things up further, sound familiar?)
Sunshine ("Only dream I ever have... is it the surface of the sun? Everytime I shut my eyes... it's always the same. ")
    Moon (Sam, Sam, Sam...)
Slumdog Millionaire (the film that made Danny Boyle famous)
    Hunger (1981 Irish hunger strike)
Millions (probably Danny boyle's most underrated film)
? Sunday (Paul Greengrass before the Bourne films)
Control (film about Ian Curtis, bloke out of Joy Division)
Atonement (a lesson about shutting your mouth when you're not needed)
Shaun Of The Dead (a rom-zom-com)
Eastern Promises (David Cronenberg visits London)
Sexy Beast ("I gotta change my shirt, it's sticking to me. I'm sweating like a ? ")
A Clockwork Orange (one of Stanley Kubrick's finest)
Dead Man's Shoes (Genius revenge flick. Think Taxi Driver based in the Midlands)
    Withnail and I (I?)
Brazil (Terry Gilliam doing dystopian satire)
24 Hour Party People (Learn a bit about Madchester and Factory Records)
The Constant Gardener (Corruption and more corruption)
    Elizabeth (Cate Blanchett does royalty)
This Is England (Real England in the 1980s)
The Last King of Scotland (Forest Whitaker does Idi Amin)
Get Carter (Michael Caine doing the gangster ting)
The Wicker Man ("Come. It is time to keep your appointment with the Wicker Man.")
The Italian Job ("You were only supposed to blow the ? doors off")
A ? and Bull Story ("You're fantastically attractive and your knowledge of German cinema is second to none.")
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (Guy Ritchie flick)
    Snatch (Lock, Stock 2)
Layer Cake (Daniel Craig before he became Bond)

United 93 (should have won Best Picture instead of The Departed)
London To Brighton (deals with runaway youth and prostitution)
Monty Python's Life of Brian ("He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy")
Gregory's Girl (coming of age film)
The Long Good Friday (one of the best British gangster flicks)
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (black comedy by Stanley Kubrick)
In The Loop (a ? take of Anglo-American politics)
Four Lions (a comedy about Islamist terrorists... yes, that's correct)

Finished downloading: Layer Cake, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch.

Anybody know the name of this movie: some guys were robbing a bank and they bought or rented the store next door so they could dig and tunnel under the vault overnight. They got all the safety deposit boxes but ended up stealing one that had some photos of a politcian (or other high powered person) with prostitutes (or some uncompromising position). The politician starts hunting them down and killing them to try and retrieve the photos.

very good list. I would also check out most, if not all, films from a very prominent director in england now, mike leigh. he has films like all or nothing, secrets and lies, and life is sweet. they probably wont appeal to u if your looking for comedy and gangster-eque movies though. but one that might however is one of my favorites of his. and its a black comedy by the name of "naked". i would highly recommend that one to u

Co-sign Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

This isn't a gangster or comedy, but if you like horror check out Eden Lake. That sh*t was good. Like real good.

Whats the UK horror genre like? I've never really checked it out. The reason I specified comedy and gangster is because the few I've seen have impressed me. I know the Japanese make great horror movies, but it hard to find them with English subs.

Lightyears ahead of American horror films nowadays. I appreciate Japanese horror but they're not as fresh as they used to be. Eden Lake is one of the best I've seen. And like Renegade said, that ending is way real. Surprised the actor who played Brett hasn't become famous in the U.S. yet.
