Change? Yeah, all you're going to have left is change after Obama gives the rest of everybody's money to Wall Street.

You thought dude was a president for the people? LOL

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/10/white-house-gives-in-on-bush-tax-cuts_n_781992.html
WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama's top adviser suggested to The Huffington Post late Wednesday that the administration is ready to accept an across-the-board continuation of steep Bush-era tax cuts, including those for the wealthiest taxpayers.

That appears to be the only way, said David Axelrod, that middle-class taxpayers can keep their tax cuts, given the legislative and political realities facing Obama in the aftermath of last week's electoral defeat.

"We have to deal with the world as we find it," Axelrod said during an unusually candid and reflective 90-minute interview in his office, steps away from the Oval Office. "The world of what it takes to get this done."

"There are concerns," he added, that Congress will continue to kick the can down the road in the future by passing temporary extensions for the wealthy time and time again. "But I don't want to trade away security for the middle class in order to make that point."

It has been widely assumed that the president would have to accept an across-the-board deal of some kind, but Axelrod's remarks were the first public confirmation of that fact -- and by a figure regarded as closer to Obama than any other White House staffer.

you do realize that the president can veto decisions by congress, right?

i mean, you do understand that if the executive branch disagrees with the legislature, they can't just pass anything they want, right?

in other words, you do realize that blaming republicans is a mistake in this situation, right?

Techincally, Congress can override a veto. The real problem is all this power struggle ? going on and parties not working together. Both think they have the solution and both are wrong on many fronts while right on others.

    depends on the numbers game

and the GOP doesn't control the senate, so obama and his party still control two thirds of the game, excluding the supreme court, which obama is going to be able to appoint even more liberals to in the coming years

obama is willing to use signing statements and other Bush tactics to do things to appease Republicans and blow up Pakistanis, so why doesn't he use them to push his own agenda?

Let's be real here. His "agendas" have faced heavy opposition on almost everything from the Republican party. Its not like he's had a free pass to whatever he wanted to do for the last 2 years. EVERYTHING has been a struggle. Now, I'm not saying his proposed moves are all great, but neither are most Republicans either. This 2 party power struggle ? is hurting more than helping.

His party dominated both houses of congress with a supermajority. He DID have a free pass to do whatever he wanted, but because he is a weak leader, he could not even get his own party behind him.

Fortunately, its in the Republicans shallow political interest to reject anything Obama offers.

So there's still a pretty good chance that this will end with everybody's taxes going back to the Clinton rates and the Tea Party's "Obama raised our taxes!!" fantasy finally being fulfilled.

They had 60 votes for a few months via a GOP senator switch, Joe Lieberman, and guys like Ben Nelson that are basically Republicans anyway. Add that to those couple dozen drawling southerners in the House Blue Dog caucus.

FDR had 70% to 80% of BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS. That, is a free pass.

if obama was FDR, Julian Assange would get swizz cheesed by a Predator drone

i have facts to back up this hilarious assertion btw:

He was in a fury at the Chicago Tribune, and the Tribune was a patriotic paper. It did publish stories that, en passant, made it known that we had broken the Japanese code. But its purpose was not to destroy our war effort. It was a breach en passant. Yet FDR, as Conrad Black puts it in his biography, “Champion of Freedom,” “exploded” and ordered the secretary of the navy, William Knox, “to send marines to occupy the Tribune Tower.” Knox, himself an ex-newspaperman, dodged the order, while Roosevelt tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to get his attorney general to charge the proprietor of the Tribune, Colonel McCormick, with treason.

This. Besides, letting the cuts for the rich expire is actually popular.

Yeah, this is exactly what I think. I don't think Obama is stupid enough to add 700 billion dollars to the deficit by extending those ? tax cuts. His officials are already denying these reports, so I don't think we have to take this thread too seriously from this point on.

I have been learning this the hard way. Obama is a puppet, ? made leader for the ages. Shame on his ass for continuing the losing war in Afghanistan, which is only making America more hated in the Arab world.

Everyone knew that before he got elected, why is it a surprise now? He also has a time line for the war to end next year.. (Which he also said before he got elected)
