The parts for Microsoft's Kinect unit cost roughly $56 total, according to an independent report.
The bill of materials was calculated following a teardown analysis by UBM TechInsights, according to a report by EETimes, which found Kinect included chips made by PrimeSense, Marvell Technology Group, Texas Instruments and STMicroelectronics NV.
Demand for Kinect - the prototype for which reportly cost $30,000 - has been high following the UK launch earlier this week, with most high street and online retailers running out of stock in the first 24 hours.
