for dessert I like to make an upside down cake, pour fruit cocktail in a glass pan, then pour yellow cake mix straight out the box ontop of the fruit, then slice butter squares and place them covering the entire cake mix, bake on 375 until cake mix is golden brown.............its real sweet so don't eat too much

    Great thread !!!!!

    Orange Cranberry Sauce

    1 lb fresh cranberries
    1 large peeled orange
    1 cup of sugar

Blend the cranberries and orange in a food processer or blender until it's completely mixed
    Pour into a bowl
    Stir in sugar
Place bowl in freezer if you are making it Thanksgiving day for a couple of hours to firm or if you make it the day before ... just place in fridge till you are ready to serve it.

I usually let it sit out for about 20 - 30 minutes before we eat.

Me and my sister are doing all the cooking this year, still trying to come up with the final menu and get our ingredients list ready. We know we're doing a Salvadorian turkey b/c my sister's husband will love that. Roast beef, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and mac and cheese is what we came up with so far.

Ms S do you have any good cake recipes? My sis said she wants to do a cake and a pie.

    Pineapple Upside Down Cake

1 box of Yellow cake mix
    3 eggs
1/2 cup of oil ( read the box mix to make sure )
1 can of sliced pineapples... don't use fresh they don't bake as well
1 jar of marichino (sp?) cherries
    1 cup of brown sugar
1 or 2 sticks of butter

Mix cake according to box instructions in a big bowl and pre heat oven

Take a 9 inch pan ( I use a glass one ) and cover the inside with butter to where it makes a layer
Place the pineapples in the bottom of the pan
Fill cherries in the center of each ring and anywhere else you see a space
sprinkle brown sugar all over the pineapples and cherries
I sometimes add small pads of butter in the gaps between the pineapples too
Pour the cake mix on top of the pineapples/cherry/butter/brown sugar
bake according to the box . Use the toothpick test to make sure no cake sticks to the toothpick.

Take out and let cool some... maybe 15 minutes or so before you flip it over

The brown sugar and butter make this crispy edge and the cake center is super moist. I serve it when it's still a little warm :)

Me personally I wouldn't use velveeta... I use like 5 different kinds of shredded cheddar and a thick layer on top for that classic soul food baked mac and cheese. I am famous for mine lol.
