On the heels of World AIDS Day comes a stunning medical breakthrough: Doctors believe an ? -positive man who underwent a stem cell transplant has been cured as a result of the procedure.
Timothy Ray Brown, also known as the "Berlin Patient," received the transplant in 2007 as part of a lengthy treatment course for leukemia. His doctors recently published a report in the journal Blood affirming that the results of extensive testing "strongly suggest that cure of ? infection has been achieved."
Brown's case paves a path for constructing a permanent cure for ? through genetically-engineered stem cells.
Last week, Time named another AIDS-related discovery to its list of the Top 10 Medical Breakthroughs of 2010. Recent studies show that healthy individuals who take antiretrovirals, medicine commonly prescribed for treating ? , can reduce their risk of contracting the disease by up to 73 percent.
While these developments by no means prove a cure for the virus has been found, they can certainly provide hope for the more than 33 million people living with ? worldwide. Alongside such findings, global efforts to combat the epidemic have accelerated as of late, with new initiatives emerging in the Philippines and South Africa this week.

If this is true it's really a shame that the cure only has two years left to be perfected because once Obama is gone stem cell research will once again be cut.
-
how do you know Obama won't be reelected?
because we can totally foresee an election outcome years before the race even begins, word to President Giuliani. -

Because I don't believe in miracles and in politics probabilities don't exist therefore with a little bit of a brain combined with sight/hearing you can determine elections most of the time. -
Soooooo why isn't this being backed more again? If people knew you could cure that monster, EBRC would be a full-time thing

And then Hepatitis, Herpes, HPV, and unwanted pregnancies would be the new pandemic. -

Well I mean damn, way to ? the dream -
This is not a 'cure'. What has happened is a person in Germany received a bone marrow transplant. The transplant resulted in his bone marrow producing cells that were highly resistant to ? attack. To date they have not found any ? antibodies in the patients blood. The doctors have yet to find out if this is even repeatable. Several sources are contributing big money to research this case to determine if their is a repeatable cure here or the guy just got lucky. (One of the scenarios is the ? was heavily concentrated in his bone marrow and they physical removed it from his body. If this is the case it is not a cure and this guy just won the lottery.)

uh, those are the current pandemics wise guy.
1/5 americans got the herp. and a lot of women are effected by HPV and die.
They are not on the level of AIDS, wise guy -
herpes is far more widespread than aids
2007 ? Cases - 32.9 million
2007 Herpes cases - 13.4 million -
regardless of if it really "cured" or not, it's a huge step in the right direction.
