but keep in mind that most people will only go outta their way to create a review if they are complaining.
However if it's something out of bounds (i.e., "I moved in and they had rats" or "I had a break in" or "in the morning there's glass in the parking lot from cars broken in every night") then you know to pass on that one. And it's a lot of ? that write reviews that complain about office staff, I usually don't care about that cuz personally all i'm gonna do is pay my rent and keep to myself.
Otherwise the sites are pretty solid.... apartmentratings.com gave me a $100 Visa card when I used them to get an apartment in a different city once...not much but $100 is $100
Also keep in mind that the apartment locale staff who supplies the photos will ALWAYS show a bunch of bunch of pictures that make them look better (with all kinds of green ass landscape, fountains, springs, and ? ) but just don't worry about that. If you see over 20 reviews and it has a 50% good or better rating then it's probably a decent place to stay. -

Craigslist is pretty much my go to place. Also check out streeteasy or urbansherpa.
I also highly recommend MapThatPad to use while u apt hunt. -
