Come on man, we're talking about 12 tracks produced by RZA back when he was at the top of his game. Illmatic cant compete with that.

Even if youre biased, can you honestly deny any of these points?

How can you take that into consideration? It aint GZA's fault that Nas didnt have enough material to make 13 tracks.

Liquid Swords is a classic, no doubt. But Illmatic is the Holy Grail. Its not even close. Illmatic MUSICALLY > Liquid Swords

i rep rza production (esp 93-97) all day but ima put that aside a minute lol. production is closer than you make it out to be imo, maybe equal. premo pete rock large pro etc all at their peak too and them beats were classic. rza was sick but got even better on cuban linx to me. features i agree (nas just had az). lyrics i agree. so if lyrics=nas features=gza and production is equal, it can go either way, prolly leaning to nas

Production on Illmatic is better. Way more versatile. It captures different emotions better.

Damn i never thought of this b4 but this def a good comparison n i agree wit ur post. Only thing is i would have to give the edge to Illmatic. The lyrics and the way it changed Hip Hop at the time it dropped gives it the edge

    Ghost on Investigative Reports

Yo, I grab the pen for revenge and let loose, see
Like Muslims, standing on the block, rocking a khufi
The hundred-dollar kick rockin kid's back for more
startin gold wars, with black Reeboks and Velours
    Jungle royal life, livin villain
    Packed with visions, copywritten
Throwin bread to pigeons, Christ has risen, King Elegant
    Slang-Master jackets, expensive noodle hats
In sixty-nine, old times was time that brothers shot craps
The baggy blue Guess jeans, pull strings off of callin springs
I'm locked in the thing, Rocky ring labelled rap king
The corner emperor - the golden thieves play the benches
Rednecks be hanging big ? down in Memphis
Back in Now-Y, hit the bull's eye with loaded nines
Life is like Tarzan, swingin from a thin vine
Shatter dreams, then mirrors don't need a press spirals
Aim at the white shadows with big barrels
of Moet-ahs, the bald headers, milk and Amarett-ahs
Who fear none, question all personal vendettas, yo
They use guns, while we angrily shot arrows
You better keep your eye on the sparrow!

Visualizin the realism of life and actuality
? who's the baddest a person's status depends on salary
And my mentality is, money orientated
I'm destined to live the dream for all my peeps who never made it
cause yeah, we were beginners in the hood as five percenters
But somethin must of got in us cause all of us turned to sinners
Now some, restin in peace and some are sittin in San Quentin
Others such as myself are tryin to carry on tradition
Keepin the schwepervesence street ghetto essence inside us
Cause it provides us with the proper insight to guide us
Even though, we know somehow we all gotta go
but as long as we leavin thievin we'll be leavin with some kind of dough
so, and to that day we expire and turn to vapors
me and my capers-ll be somewhere stackin plenty papers
Keepin it real, packin steel, gettin high
Cause life's a ? and then you die

GF's verse is good, but this AZ verse on of the best guest appearances.

Shouldnt the artist with less features get more credit? Plus its evident that GZA would have more features being half the clan was on every solo release of that era (mef,ODB,gza, rae, ghost). LS is a classic no doubt but Illmatics creative input took lyricism, storytelling, and concept records to new heights, with legendary producers of that era which gave it different sounds whereas LS had that one dark theme...overall Illmatic..both classics regardless.
