they giving the prequels on tnt all weekend. This movie makes me appreciate them so much more. The story telling and political arcs being interwoven into Anakin's story. This ? here is just lazy and for money.

Star Wars 8 Director Had Freedom Of No Pre-Planned Story

Johnson, alongside producer Ram Bergman, recently sat down with Deadline to talk about their latest and arguably biggest undertaking to date, The Last Jedi. In the conversation, the director was questioned about whether there is a clear-cut arc that the current trilogy is going through, and surprisingly, it turns out that nothing massive was set in stone before he boarded the project:

“Not really. That’s what’s been really cool about the storytelling process. There is definitely the idea that we know it is a three-movie arc. We know the first film is an introduction, then the middle act is training, meaning challenging the characters. The third is where they all come together and you have to resolve everything.

But I was truly able to write this script without bases to tag, and without a big outline on the wall. That meant I could react to what I felt from The Force Awakens, and what I wanted to see. I could make this movie personal. I could also just take these characters where it felt right and most interesting to take them. I think part of the reason the movie feels like it goes to some unexpected places with the characters is that we had that freedom. If it had all just been planned out and written down beforehand, it might have felt a little more calculated, I suppose.”

so they dont even have an outline for the end of the skywalker saga. They just flyin by the seat of their pants apparently. no ? given to the heritage and lore of SW. They just trying to sell porgs and green milk for star wars land opening in 2019 which coincides with the last movie. Not a coincidence.

You could tell they didn't have a plan outlined just by the contradictions between ep 7 and ep 8 on what they were implying was important. 7 had a lot of importance placed on snoke and how powerful he was, and asking who rey was, where she came from, who her parents were, why'd they leave her, etc. etc. and those were all brushed aside in ep 8 in one way or another

on second viewing 8.5/10 , if they had executed "that casino scene" better or made it shorter/tighter this would have been the perfect Star Wars movie for me. The message (military industry complex) and intent was there but the results were not that good.

But everything else is so well done to me that its all good.

    lol Uncle luke with the....

This is easily the best looking movie in the series..

I wouldn't be mad if Mark Hamil got a Oscar or golden globe nod for best supporting actor..

It's not a perfect movie but the things it gets right are pretty good. I might check it out again in theaters..

    Question:
Did that kid use the force to grab that broom?

    Also..
RIP Snoke Hefner. We hardly knew ye..*hums Krits Bury me in gold*

    Annnd..
Jedi can just be like '? life I'm out'? I'm not mad Luke died but I was like 'huh?' A 1000 goats to man that makes that gif 1st..

And it woulve been nice to know Leia could use the force rather than it be implied..
yeah the kid used the force... its a,setup for more jedi in the future

The writer and director of the movie literally says he didn't have an outline for the movie.
(Luscas film/Disney gave him free creative reign)

He basically said he wasn't going to waste his time aka movie exploring or building on the deeper mysteries of who, what and why that the previous film brought up.

Which is why the mystery and intrigue of Snoke (who was he,where did he come from? If he wasn't a Sith Lord exactly what was he??) and Rey's parentage wasn't built on and were so quickly swept a side

Episode 7 didn't put any importance on Snoke if you really sit down and watch the thing. The fans own intrigue did that. Dude was barely in the movie at all or spoken about.

    Matter of fact...
He was explored so pitifully and minimally in the previous movie that killing him here was without a doubt the best decision. Anything else would have felt like shoehorning faux importance onto him.

True. We as fans expected there to be so much more to him because of the importance placed on prior Sith lords, not particularly because he as a character was so important.

It's not bad flick..and definitely had some cool and "oh ? !" moments ...but ultimately it felt hollow

and I think once the "high" wears off, I expect peoples praise of this movie will soon follow

Even further, I just watched John Campea make the point that we've gotten just as much if not more more development on Snoke than we ever got of the emperor in the original trilogy. And people loved him even prior to us getting the backstory from the prequals. Which is true as hell.
