The French absolutely deliver with their horror! I’ve stumbled upon a lil gem called “Inside”,
and...I need more!! please list some top notch French horror films
Also, who else loved this beast of a horror film called “High/Haute Tension”?
The build-up, pacing, and of course the ‘tension’ was incredible! Easily 9/10
If you haven’t watched it, add to queue & avoid any details - including this thread.
I’ve read many different interpretations, and reviews. What did you think?
The debate usually comes down to the ending. I’m sure most hated it...

This is one of my absolute favorite horror movies! This and the British film Eden Lake.
My interpretation (SPOILERS):
It's clearly MPD. And the villain is just a manifestation of her jealousy, anger, and sexual longing for Alex. More than likely some schizophrenia there also.
The only really confusing thing for me was the severed head ? scene. The head looked very similar to Alex...that was something I noticed. -
Ive Seen It Once And To Be Honest I Wasnt To Impressed Too Slasherish For Me....

It's one of my fav's too. The dead head scene was confusing…or not really confusing, but I didn’t think it fit in with the story after the big reveal. I guess just Marie’s sick fantasy. I read one interpretation that Marie was never actually invited into the home as a guest, and they were never really friends. Marie just had a thing for Alex, and was stalking her… what do you think of that theory? -

I've heard about ‘Them/ils’… it’s similar to ‘The Strangers’ right?
I’ll have to check that one out, especially after ranking it above High Tension. -
the main girl, not the killer, was ugly as hell lol. as for the movie, i like it but i always enjoy those type of twists in movies. im gonna check out eden lake and inside. 90% of the foreign movies i've seen were good.
-
^^ lol hahaha…yeah, she went through all that…over her? lol… I thought the other girl with the short hair was quite pretty though!
I love the twists in movies too, but only when I don't see it coming. If you like gore and violence…Inside would be a nice pick up. I’ll have to google Eden Lake, I’ve never heard of it… -
lol, yeah they cud have found someone a bit more attractive. the invited or uninvited, (can't remember the name) is a good movie w/ a twist at the end that i wasn't expecting. check that out too.

Yeah, that movie was crazy, still got a burned copy

Co-sign. Though I must say the ending of High Tension actually freaked me out a little. -
Thanks...I've added them to my queue...
Has anyone heard about another french film called Martyrs? I haven't seen it yet, but heard its pretty sick...

Really? People always say that, but I've never really watched any...only the American remakes
Any recommendations?
Most people always complain about American Horror, but I like it... -

Hmmm I never thought of it, but it's entirely possible. Do you remember where you read it ? I'd like to read it too. -

Audition! There's also a Korean movie called A Tale of Two Sisters which is the original for The Uninvited that was pretty good.
American horror peaked in the 70's-80's with the slasher films. Past that it's been downhill. I can count on one hand how many horror movies I've actually enjoyed in the past 20 years. And my favorite one is The Ring which was originally Japanese so I can't even count that. I loved Hostel too though, although that movie is not for everybody. -

So… Eden Lake was on TMC the other day… I watched it, really good movie!
**spoiler**
It ? me off so damn bad, I can’t even explain!
I have low tolerance for bad kids. I HATE them. I want my own revenge.
After she hit the girl that was recording, I was hoping she’d back up, and run over her multiple times. Then I wanted their leader to die slowly in the worst possible way. ** -
The original, Thai version of Shutter is pretty good, but avoid the ? ass American one

I can see why people get bored with American Horror. They're really good at dumbing down remakes, of good foreign films. Also, I know most ppl aren’t a fan of the CGI/gore overload.
I will defend ‘original’ American Horror movies though, I think they’re unappreciated. There have been a lot of good ones. I won’t go into the obvious classics like Texas Chainsaw, but something like Cabin Fever..I thought was awesome! That doesn't get mentioned a lot, also Final Destination
My kinda horror doesn't always need to follow the same formula. There was a thread about Drag Me To Hell being the worst movie ever… Of course you can’t take that kind of horror seriously. Sometimes you just gotta turn your brain off for 90 mins. Piranha 3d was about as mindless of a movie you can get lol, but was one of my top picks of the year. -

Shutter was brilliantly scary! I can’t get through a 2nd viewing though
I’m mad you even reminded me of it lol, you don't know how long that movie has stuck with me
@ Cali, if you liked The Ring, you should watch Shutter (Thai version)…
***SPOILER:
the last shot of that movie has haunted me for the longest…
Now it’s fresh in my mind all over again…*** -

Damn I actually agree with every single thing you just posted! Lol that hardly ever happens.
I love the original horror movies; Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Hellraiser, etc. And Friday the 13th was the weakest of the slasher genre IMO. It's just the remakes that don't impress me. The Last House on the Left remake was decent enough. But F13th remake was weak. NOES bordered on awful. And I don't even want to get started on Rob Zombie's remakes of Halloween.
But as you are, I"m pretty flexible with what I like in horror films. I liked Drag Me to Hell, thought it was very funny. I have Cabin Fever on DVD. Eli Roth's films are too campy to be attractive to everyone but I thought it was done well all things considering; and besides that it was just fun.
Sometimes I get in the mood for gore or torture porn. I've got the original Saw and even though I don't own it, I absolutely love Hostel...the sequel not so much though. Hostel is good for repeat viewings for me. I never get tired of it.
On a side note, if you haven't seen the original When A Stranger Calls (1978?) you should watch it. The first 15 minutes are top 5 scariest things I've ever watched. The middle turns into a crime drama for whatever reason I'll never know, but the ending picks up again. I recommend it. -

Haha...that movie is now one of my faves. And I was reading up on it. What happened to them is based on actual groups of teenagers in the UK. Even though the events in the movie are highly exaggerated, I guess there does seem to be a problem with "chavs" they call them, and how they cause trouble. Either way the ending to that had me alternately ? off and ready to cry ugh. -
i seen it.... it was messed up how she did the dads head with the dresser on the stairs ? was horrible
