That said, this is obvious, the hottest underground rapper at the moment is Kendrick Lamar, by quite some way. -

He's on Top Dawg ENT (an Independent label), he's not dropped a retail album yet and isn't signed to any Majors. So yes, still underground. Go ask anyone outside of the web 'What's your favourite Kendrick song?' and see how they respond…
That said, this is why Kendrick is 'hot' right now, he's an independent artist with the fame of anyone from 2011.
