A name that's not mentioned enough in hip-hop is DJ Quik, I am personally a big DJ Quik fan and my favorite album is Safe + Sound (1995). This album is probably most known for:
Dollaz + Sense (the record dissin MC Eiht)

Its a great album, here's some standout cuts:
Summer Breeze:

Somethin' 4 Tha Mood:

The ? In You:

Personally I feel like Quik is probably the best MC+ producer ever. Unfortunately his name doesn't come up nearly enough in these conversations of greats we always have.

Top 10 best produced Hip Hop Album of All Time.

A HIP-HOP CLASSIC Source should of gave that extra mic, no tracks needed to be skip.......Production is excellent, sequencing is on point and album is mixed well.....this album still get put in rotation every other month. One of my favorite hip-hop albums of all times....QUIK is for grownfolks straight G production that is smooth.

Fasho. This ? is a masterpiece for real. It was hard picking "standouts". I don't know why its not mentioned up there with joints like Amerikkas Most... And The Chronic. Maybe its because Quik isn't mainstream.

This album got me through my school bus suspension during the winter in the South Suburbs of Chicago!! Great album to keep my mind off of walking through snow stroms at 7am in the morning!!
-

Get at me is one of my favorites. I love how Quik never had a problem letting ? have it lyrically. This is a slept on classic.

as far as quik albums to quik fans are concerned, id say its over appreciated.
this is widely considered to be his magnum opus, and i dont think so.
with the exception of way to fonky (im sorry, but that album was ? butt cheeks baring a few songs) his albums continually got better. He evolved w/ each album musically and lyrically
I found Rhythm to top this album in lyrics and music, and Balance to have the one up on Rhythm.
Hes one of the few artists who grew from album to album. Lots of cats made the same album over and over again. Quik isnt that cat
but i dont have an issue w/ this album getting props or even being considered his best. That argument could be made for most of his albums, and i wouldn't have a prob w/ any of them (baring way too fonky) -
I don't like Way 2 Fonky either to be honest. And I agree he did get better as his career progressed but to me this is his most complete and cohesive album.
He definitely found his groove with this one. -
Super co-sign this pick. Album was amazing. CLASSIC!

DJ Quik Artistry = Under appreciated.
dude is top 5 west coast all times, and top 20 all times overall
-
DJ quik one of the GOAT's.
-
DJ Quik the true originator of g-funk and the Compton sound not Dr. Dre. ? is just unfortunate to know a ? like Dre. Dre aint never give his homeys too much shine whether its Quik, Warren G, or DOC. If they helped with Detox, it woulda been out for a minute already. This and Rhythmalism with Quik looking like a clown rocking that stupid ass old school perm are classics.

I ? slapped Quik ? ass bacc in 95 at da source awards when he performed dat song dissing my crip patna mc eiht. eiht told if any ony of us catch dat nicca quik slippin fucc him up. so after the show ends i go to bacc of an alley to smoke on dis blue chronic when i saw quik punk ass across da street. so i ran across da like i carl lewis a ? slapped quik to da ground and stomped his ass with my LA GEAR FRESH shoes on. suge happen to catch me beating quiks ass so suge pushed me off but i qiuccly slapped suge so hard part of pork chop he was eating came flying out of his mouth and his fat ass fell flat on da ground knocced da fucc out.
