According to Adrian Wojnarowski (who is very reputable when breaking NBA news, @WojYahooNBA on Twitter) David Stern will step down as NBA commissioner on Feb. 1, 2014, and the Board of Governors has chose Adam Silver to replace him.

david stern really grew the nba.....
i am curious to see if they will expand it to include a world league type thng...thats basically the only thing he didnt do.....

excellent news.

Yea if you take your sport from tape delay to live broadcast then you;ve doine a good job overall. No doubt he got some blemishes on that record but overall I'd say he done a good job. He easily has the hardest sport to regulate. That dress code ? was a major issue but years later that ? really helped ? the hip hop/thug image that folks were over blowing off a few bad apples. Basketball players has the most negative image in the media even though a NFL player is arrested every 5 mintues.
That changing of the basektball ? was dumb as hell. -

never mind...they just said dreams of european expanison teams added to the nba will not be possible due to the economy downfall..... -
The GOAT commissioner...compare Basketball from where it was in relation to other sports....and to what it is now. Look at the other commissioners....Gary Bettman? Is there a bigger clown in sports? Bud Selig who does nothing to improve the game for his fans?
Its the only sport of the big three to have a real international following and feeder system. Player salaries have damn near quadrupled and are second only to Baseball contract and they dont have a salary cap. Cleaned up the sports image which expanded its fan base.
And keep it real when he needed to...

The man can't be the commissioner forever. And to say that people are completely ok with it is irrelevant because fans dont have a say in these matters. But this aint new. This happens in all the major sports. Its always the person underneath the commish that takes over.
I gotta give him respect for bringing a team to my city. Its one of the better things he has done during his time as commissioner.

Damn, Woj really dug into Stern the other day didn't he?

Lots of people are ? on him and deservedly so. The mf act as if he is the reason for the leagues success, Nike is more responsible for the globalization of the NBA than Stern is. Michael Jordan and his branding is why the league is where it is right now.

This is nonsense.
David Stern was DIRECTLY responsible for Mike's (and Larry, and Magic's) superstardom. Before him games were on ? tape delay....TAPE DELAY. The NBA first major league to launch in-house international TV distribution and operations. He brought cable contracts (TBS doesnt exist today without the NBA in the 80s) that made it possible for Nike's marketing machine to take over. You think Mike is getting the Nike deal without live games? Without a regional cable coverage?? Stern brought NBA players to the Olympics....you think Mike becomes the international superstar that he is without that kind of exposure?
