It's foolish to compare handhelds to home consoles. 3DS is doing alright, but nobody is surprised. 3DS has precedent. Nintendo's handhelds have always done great sales.

Not for long. Apple, Samsung, and Google will dominate handheld systems in the near future. Heck, they almost do already.

Don't count them out yet. They provide a great alternative to the super expensive M$ and Sony consoles that parents want to buy for their kids. Variety made the gaming industry for what it is. Nintendo played it smart and try to squeeze in a couple of great years of first party software, when the PS4 is struggling with it's first year sales (like most consoles do in their first year).

Don't compare it to the gamecube.
The gamecube had SSBM, so it's automatically better than the Wii U. -
