Both albums were released at almost exactly 4 years from each other.. TBA is probably his most memorable album being that he claimed he was gonna retire after TBA, and the release of Fade to Black definitely increased the allure of the album.. whereas the concept-driven album AG is generally considered his best post-retirement album..
So I ask, which album do ya'll think is better?..

The Black Album. No Hello Brooklyn equals = superior albums.
-
The Black Album. He was lyrically better on TBA. Puff did his thing on AG, but what Ye did on this joint trumps erething on AG....

oh this is a tough one. both are easily his best albums since the blueprint...
-
The Black Album.I like both but I give the edge to Black Album.

-
The Black Album.I enjoyed both albums a lot. Black album i played more of tho.
Love how so many remix albums came from these 2 albums, if you havent, check these out yall.
Brooklyn soul is a remix of American Gangster using all Marvin Gaye Samples. Beats are 100X better than the retail version of the album. And the samples totally give it that 1970's vibe. Fits perfectly. -

American Gangster.Damn...tough.
On 1 hand, lyrically Jay obviously was better on Black Album.
On the other hand, BA has a handful of avg to even WACK songs. Dont care what nobody say, Brush Your Shoulders is/was WACK. Justify my thug was meh. Moment of Clarity = the prototypical attrocious Eminem beat...
But then he got JEWELS wit My first song, Allure, and Lucifer.
AG gets the egde b/c there are no skips, and the concept and how he perfectly aligned full sngs with exact moments in the movie. Crazy

American Gangster.like the production and vibe on this album better than TBA

American Gangster. When journeying though the album, Jay-Z rarely homes in on one song, but describes them in groups. It’s as if he doesn’t want one to outshine the others.
He begins to explain a song that correlates with a scene in the movie.
“In ‘Success,’ there is the scene [in the movie] where he shoots the guy in front of the [restaurant]…”
Suddenly, he starts spitting lines from the song.
“I’m way too important to be talking about extorting /Ask me for a portion is like askin’ for a coffin.”
Then he resumes the answer as if it weren’t just sliced in two by a rap bar.
"…where the guy tries to extort him in front of the diner,” he says moving to the next few songs. “ ‘Pray’ is the corruption with the cops. ‘Fallen’ is, his fall from grace. [The album] is all of the pieces and bits of emotions I pulled from the movie.”
“The last song is a song called ‘Fallen’ and that’s everything just falling apart,” he says, eventually reverting back to his brash brand of bravado. “[The album’s conclusion is] not really true and s**t, ‘cause I’m a bad ma’ f**ker. I really made it and s**t. I’m better than Al Capone – he ain’t make it. Michael Corleone [from “The Godfather”], Scarface – I’m iller than all them n***as.”
The room remains silent.
“Y’all gotta give it to me,” he coos…charming them into laughter. “That’s some very true s**t.”

American Gangster.AG, i will never understand why tba album gets so much praise when there's literally 2-3 playable songs on there.
