Just about every song can be used as proof against the commonly used criticisms of Jay-Z and Kanye.
Criticisms of Jay:
Redundant lyrics of drug dealing and money
Over dependant of Kanye/Pharrell/Just Blaze/Timbaland production
No artistic growth
One dimensional stereotypical New York rapper
Not thought provoking or deep
No connection to the everyday struggles of Black Americans
Devil worshipper/illuminati/etc
Criticisms of Ye:
Too much singing, not enough rapping
Using ghostwriters
Too much soul sampling
Not enough soul sampling
Diminished 'consciousness' and 'Pac-like emotion and wittiness'
You really can't say this ? about Jay and Ye after listening to this album. No Church In The Wild, Murder To Excellence, New Day, Why I Love You, The Joy, Primetime, Otis, Welcome To The Jungle, Made In America are the types of songs that Jay and Ye haters...and I call them haters because their claims are unfounded...refuse to acknowledge.

How do you know Ye used ghost writers?

My beef with this album was that it was a lazy effort by two otherwise hard working artists. I mean, Jay been on his lazy ? , but I expected more from Kanye. Subject wise, anyone criticizing them about that has no idea what they're talking about. They always had flashy high class raps with social commentary, and even their most ignorant ? (no pun intended) was deeper than it sounded.

When this album watch the throne dropped I felt kanye west declined as an artist coming off of My beautiful dark twisted fantasy. It felt like kanye had to rely on more materialistic lyrics to compensate, because jay-z is on the whole album with him it felt very forced it didn't feel natural.
With Jay-z it was basically the same content he has been spitting since 1996.The only thing that has changed is he is much richer now and it isn't any fantasy in his lyrics about his wealth like when he said "Basquiats ,Warhol's serving as my muses my house like a museum so I see it when I'm peeing." You know more than likely Jay-z home probably does look like a museum and it wouldn't be farfetched. -
I always thought WTT sounded like a Ye album. I remember his verses more. Maybe I'm just being biased..

"Damn baby ? can't be your only hustle unless you bad as Naomi Russell"
Kanye dropping porn stars into his lyrics. -

That's a quotable yo -
Let's be real, the only people who had a problem with WTT were the purist who thought it was gonna have premo, madlib, etc like it was suppose. No way could you been to the shows and say that album wasn't good. They basically made a touring/stadium album

I feel what the thread starter sayin..because I felt the same way..Jay-z spoke on things he hasn't on any other album in his career. Of course he has the cash ringers on there..but Murder to Excellence, The Joy, That's My ? , Why I Love You, New Day..
Is it a wack song on the album to ya'll? Even the singles were nice imo
but to each his/her own is how i view it..I think it will be a classic later on..people expectations where set so high i think.. -
I enjoyed the album *shrugs*

I love that album i dont get teh hate for it at all, towards the end of the album is started balancing out getting personal talking about the old rock and other stuff i gave it a break but that's one of my favorite albums

Watch the throne was garbage. They have C and D list rappers who have put out better joint efforts than Kanye and Jay Z. The creative range was supposed to be unlimited between these two and they kept the formula simple and basic. Nearly all of the albums is about material things and wealth. Only ? never picked up a book or wiki'd history are impressed by the elementary subjects spitten on murder to excellence. It ain't like they went in. They just mentioned some black leaders Kanye copied down in a notebook from his college dropout years. The production on the album sounded poppy and generic. The album didnt match up with hype and the billing. Watch the throne could of been 14 exclusive produced Kanye bangers with jay z back on his bp1 flow ? . That's what I thought wtt had to offer.

Album was Dope, I just listened to it again yesterday. Singles were hot along with the other tracks so I dont see where they went wrong.

my point rests...because like i said i think people expected so much from it. I didnt say they spit rocket science on the song..but im sayin Jay never spoke like that on any record in his early career.. *shrugz* -
"All I'm hearing is coke rapping with no passion"
That's pretty much jay after AG -

I liked the production but the lyrics and hooks of the album were mediocre . Wish it was an instrumental album.

About half of the whole album was dope, and half of it was disappointing. I felt Ye threw some throwaway rhymes out, and I hated all the Euro trash that bogged down the production. I paid $5 for it on a Black Friday, and tbh, that's what I think its worth. Not in my top 3 Kanye or top 5 Jay albums.

I may be wrong but as far as I remember WTT was praised by critics blogs etc. Only folks on the reason wasnt ? with the unorthodox sound the european samples etc

when I first heard it. I was disappointed cause I was expecting a sound like blueprint 1. only song Ireally liked was no church in the wild( favorite track), new day, the joy and otis. but it ended up growing on me except that wack ass shooting to the stars or moon track. with that said I'll be lying if I said no church in the wild and the joy aren't the only songs I still listen to

uhm this album was actually pretty well received by critics... because it was a great album!!
And like someone else said, you lost out if you didnt catch one of the WTT shows! legendary!
