Complex Compiles List of "Hip Hop's Greatest Mixtapes

I like how their memory starts around The Black Album time period.

Like dope mixtapes didn't exist prior to artists putting out their own mixtape.

Personally, DJ Vlad and DJ Green Lantern had some of the sickest mixtapes back in the day. And no Clue tapes?

Those Rap Phenomenon mixtapes were beasts and bumped for days. Especially the 2Pac: Rap Phenomenon.

Plus the Shady Invasion mixtapes. That was the real hype prior to all those G-Unit albums and during the Dre/Jermaine Dupri, Eminem/Benzino, G-Unit/Ja Rule beefs.

Vlad the Butcher was a dope-ass mixtape too.

Saigon's Yardfather series was also dope as ? .

They didn't even mention Joe Budden's Mood Muzik.

Jada's Champ Is Here series was dope as ? .

No mention of The Diplomats' mixtapes from back when Dipset was coming up.

There's not even a mention of Lupe's Fahrenheit 1st & 15th series.

Then there's the modern DJ Clue mixtapes, like Thee American Idol series, that 'Banned From CD' mixtape he put out a couple years ago.



Let's face it. Complex is good for fun little factoids and lists, but when it comes to taking their word on anything hip hop prior to a few years ago, they're absolutely ? in the worst possible way. Most their articles are absolutely poorly researched.
