Listening to some songs off this, it's weird.

I generally hate ad-libs, and Puffy is annoying with that ? sometimes, but in one way, his ad-libs kind of add a different mood to the album. Almost like the whole album is in a dream state.

You kinda see that effect in a lot of movies. The ad-libs and talking over the dialogue and certain scenes makes the whole moment surreal in a way. And it's no secret that Biggie was storytelling everywhere on that album.

But the ad-libs were mostly on the songs where Biggie wasn't storytelling, but rather, just sorta rapping, e.g., Hypnotize. Almost like a movie where there's voiceover/narrator throughout, but the characters are different from the narrator so they can tell the story better?

What that the effect Biggie was going for? Was the album thematically supposed to be as if the stories and perspectives were Puffy's, but Biggie was the mouthpiece?

And, whether you agree with that, do you think Puffy's ad-libs add to the mood of the album, or does it take away the focus from Biggie and the songs?
