CLASSIC
Harlem, NY, Sept 29, 1998, 17 E. 126th St., famed photographer Gordon Parks shot the cover image for XXL’s December ’98 issue, “The Greatest Day In Hip-Hop History.” The cover paid homage to Art Kane’s iconic jazz portrait “A Great Day in Harlem.” Similar to the original, Park’s version brought in a surplus of rap legends and up-and-comers to pose in front of three brownstones in Harlem.
A Great Day in Harlem (or Harlem 1958) is a 1958 black and white group portrait of 57 notable jazz musicians photographed in front of a Brownstone in Harlem, New York City. The photo has remained an important object in the study of the history of jazz.

I still have this issue somewhere in storage. Classic issue.
-
Same here, I still got all my old rap-magazines
And yup, this particular issue was nothing but classic -
btw, lol @ Mos Def
-
they should do one with current rappers so these young ? can look back in a few years and realize why nobody took them seriously.
-
Gordon Parks (1912 - 2006) was the photographer
His Jazz, and his Hip Hop photo-shoots were great
Also (btw), he directed the classic movie "Shaft" (1979)
No current rappers edition needed IMO
Cause it would be a pretty shameful sight
(with the exception of some, of course)
-
I think I still got mines too. That was a classic day for hip-hop.

Nowadays you can't even get 3 rappers in a room together to record a song...
Never mind something like this... -
I remember that, but I don't think I have it in my collection any more.

The documentary to accompany it was dope.
I want the picture at the end of the doc (part 3) with Fab 5 Freddy, Slick Rick, Russell Simmons and Kool Herc.
Anybody know how to hook that up? -
Try to contact "Michael A. Gonzales."
