These are good numbers. Name another rapper been in the game 20 years, who is guaranteed to have a #1 album whenever he drops? The only ones last ten years not #1, was Lost Tapes and Distant Relatives.
-
At this point Nas record sales dont matter
because hes noticed as a top 5 emcee of all time already.
and one of the most influential rappers in the game.
His sales arent good but they're not bad. They're Solid. -
sales do not reflect respect in the game. its really hard to gauge the meaning of sales. for example illmatic took 2 years to hit gold but it is regarded as one of hip hops greatest albums if not the greatest album.
-
That many albums, that many plaqs, that many numbers, topping that many charts, over that many years, and that ? still selling and critically acclaimed? ? is unprecedented in Hip-Hop. Nas occupies a singular space in rap. He's a beacon for longevity in Hip-Hop while keeping your soul and integrity in the process.
-
Also, Nas never puts out radio friendly singles.
I actually believe he don't even know how to do this lol.
His sales are on the strength of people wanting to hear what he has to SAY.
Very few have that appeal. -
Damn all life is good did was 380k?!?! That's insanity

You should be asking what happened to his old "fans". -
"Don't buy my songs, yall don't roll with it... ...I don't need yall, I'll go gold with it"
-
Illmatic should have went diamond.

*crickets* -
Yo Streets Disciple was platinum, it was a double disk, it went gold in the first week and sold 785k but because it was a double album it actually did 1,570,000 and Untitled went gold.

Untitled did 800k
@Bignorm I agree fam, Kanye & Jay have similar numbers, but at the same time you gotta give NaS his props that he didn't have business deals or endorsements backing his albums, it was just straight music and the sales is there. It's better to have peaks and valleys & have 10 albums go platinum over 10 years than to have 1 album do 10 million and never go plat/gold again. NaS did it right.
It was a double disc but it doesn't get recognized as one sales wise because it fell short of the amount of minutes on the album. -

They discovered torrents -
Why were the numbers so low for lost tapes tho? One of my personal favs.
Lack of promotion maybe? No radio friendly hits? Shame -

Or maybe it is recognized as a double album and it really sold 785k.
Yall forget that this came out in 04', downloading music was just as popular, simple, & free as it is today -

It got little to no promotion and it really isn't a real Nas album. It's a bunch of unreleased songs from the I Am era. -

Then it would be platinum -
As long as Nas drop great albums I ain't worried about his sales.
Good music all I care about. -
I don't know what ya'll are complaining about. Nas' sales are great. There's very few people in the music industry that put up those kinds of numbers.
And for the record, there's nothing wrong with selling 380,000 on your 11th album. Most rappers don't make it that far into their careers. -
1 minute thats all yall go by the next thing oh sales don't matter
with that said it's alot of kats not selling big like they should -
380 is still good.
-
not for mainstream
