A Florida man, who pleaded no contest to charges of animal cruelty, is going to jail for dousing his girlfriend’s 3-month-old puppy with hot sauce.

Ephrian Myles, 47, was sentenced to a year in county jail to be followed by 18 months probation, reports the Herald-Tribune.

According to police, Myles became annoyed with his girlfriend’s 3-month-old dachshund-chihuahua mix named Gizmo. Miles allegedly poured hot sauce on the puppy, which got into the dog’s eyes and throat. The hot sauce caused the dog to have difficulty breathing and its eyes to swell shut.

The owner of the dog took the puppy to a local fire station where the hot sauce was washed off. The dog was also treated for a pre-existing neurological disorder.

Myles, who denied pouring the hot sauce on the puppy, was also ordered to complete an anger management course.

Additionally he may not own a pet or reside in a home with animals and was ordered not contact the dog’s owner.
