If Jon Snow is Rhegars son why did Ned send letter to Stannis telling him he was the one true heir?

    Because he's Robert's heir.

nah not really why would get get jon killed in doing that or start a war to make his nephew son, he could of sat in the throne at the end of the rebellion for all that

As for the jon being rhaegar and lyanna's son...before the start of the show GRRM and benioff and weiss (show runners/writers) had a sit down and martin asked them who jon's parents were and depending on their answer he would give them his blessing to make the show. Since we just finished season 4 & martin is heavily involved we can assume they gave him the right answer...no need to even ask the question if he's really ned's son since all of westeros believes that already...ijs

? I forgot he did send a letter to stannis

    But to answer your question...

    1. Ned believed robert had won the crown fair and square, so in his eyes stannis was indeed the one true heir

Otherwise, why else would have served king robert...obviously he didnt want the burden of being king for himself considering how after the mad king was killed he could have easily taken the throne for himself, and maybe he didn't want that for jon

And if its true that jon isn't rhaegars son stannis still wouldn't be the "true" heir... dany would be next in line, no?

    2. To confirm with stannis jeff was not roberts son, while keeping his secret safe

    3. Stannis was the only person who could convincingly make a "legitimate" claim to the throne AND was also in position of power to challenge neds captors the lanisters

And at that point jon was safe and had made vows to join the nights watch

During the rebellion/war and while robert was king there would have been no need to tell Jon's secret either...it would have only endangered his life and he would have broken his promise to his dying sister

Sounds like he was testing their analyst of the books

    Which to me confirms R+L=J

All the clues scattered all but confirms it

Sure he wouldn't be impressed if they guessed ned and some minor character mentioned once in book 3...? would've just amounted to a lucky guess lol

Ned doesn't want the throne and at that time or now Jon didn't have the clout to become king. The Lannisters would have killed Jon real quick if they thought he was a problem.

Minus his secret(if that's the case) Stannis is the true heir, but Ned never agreed with taking King's landing anyway

Ned was also against killing Daenrys, maybe because he knows he has a Targaryen himself

Jon Snow was at the Nights watch at that point... he had no claim to the throne anyway....

I hope Jon's mom was some random peasant ? Ned hit because if he truly has royal blood that just increases his chances of getting merked exponentially.

If Ned knew Jon was the true heir, or had a chance at the throne (Being Lyanna and Rhaegar's son), he'd never
send him to the Knight's Watch, which would end that line forever. Ned knew more than anyone that you cant get off that wall. Ned was choppin ? heads off for it.

You gotta think tho.. the dude that was king at the time was Ned best friend.. nobody thought he would die from a hunting accident. they even said in the show it seemed like Ned had more loyalty to his homie Robert Barratheon than his own fam.. and he had an oath to keep to his sis.

Hell no, that big ? just caught Jaime and the Hound at the right time. Neither one was at a hundred percent when she fought them.

part of an interview w/ GRRM and The showrunners

"David and Dan, what was the specific question that George asked you?"

    DAN WEISS:
"He asked us, “Who is Jon Snow’s mother?” We had discussed it before, and we gave a shocking answer. At that point, George didn’t actually say whether or not we were right or wrong, but his smile was his tell. We knew we had passed the Wonka test, at that point."

And the Hound is dead and Jamie's Captain Hook ass ain't fighting anybody....that's why I suggested she is the best. Currently.

Yet Still Jamie made mention that even if he has still in his prime, Brienne will give her a tough time

I'm just saying that most of the fighters who were even up for discussion can't fight now. Jon Snow may be one of the only ones this doesn't apply to
