Considering the short time Steez was on the face of the earth, one things for sure, dude could spit!!

"Jamal Dewar (July 7, 1993 – December 24, 2012), better known by his stage name Capital Steez (stylized as Capital STEEZ), was an American hip hop recording artist from Brooklyn, New York City, New York. He was the founder of the Brooklyn-based hip hop collective Pro Era, along with longtime friend and fellow rapper Joey Badass. He committed suicide at the age of 19, by jumping from a building in Manhattan's Flatiron District."

With that out the way, I never heard any of his music, but the last week been digging deep and over and over amazed at the work of this true lyricist and gifted artist (RIP)

Several tracks moved me and went as far as downloading some of his mixtapes and can only imagine how much further this guy would blow up had he been alive today.

excerpt of one of Steez's verse from one his last recorded tracks "LAst Straw" which seemed somewhat prophetic maybe of what was to come.. expressing his disdain for certain things in the game..

All I ever heard was the bulding talk and that he text those close to him few minutes before jumping and putting on twitter "The End", and Joey Badass only going as far as saying his death was "self inflicted" to Sway on radio and then leaving it at that.

Glad you mentioned this one, gave it a replay once again after only one listen and yeah, ? is dope.

Few other mixtapes I see on his discography I need to cop.

There's very few artists I hear these days over the last few years and just step back like "this is some good ? "

One other one I liked released after his passing was Long Live Steelo, some good tracks on that also. Not sure if you heard.

I knew he could spit from only hearing Pro Era tracks but watching this video seems like he potentially coulda been the best artist out of the whole camp.

    Damn shame.

There are plenty of tracks around where dude really shines. Not wrong, is a DAMN SHAME he gone. IMO he was the elite artist in Pro Era and even Beat Coast.

He had the most overall ability in the group. Joey caught fire but Steez was the brains behind their whole organization and guided Joey to being the rapper he is. Shame what happened.

He really didn't like all that stuff Joey was doing. I recall a video where the interviewer was talking about Joey working with Mac Miller & Steez said "wack Miller" under his breath. Steez wasn't a fan of Joey working with Rocky either I'm sure. They definitely had a little bit of conflict going on.

Yea there was definitely conflict between the two...In the song Last Straw posted above Capitol Steez is going at Joey in a couple of lines subliminally listed below.

    RapGenius breaks it down here.....

    rap.genius.com/Smth-last-straw-lyrics

"How you not going to give me mine, every time I rip a line / I haven't seen the limelight,"

    rap.genius.com/2197806

"A ghost writer been why he so nice / And the time he spit some of his lines it's no concept"

A statement saying that artists in the rap game are merely idolized for their image and “it factor”, as oppose to their concepts and messages. When using a ghostwriter, there is a slight disconnect because of the lack of sincerity in the words spoken. This further distorts the messages and concepts. This is a low-key shot at his partner in crime Joey Bada$$. He may have more mass appeal and one liners, but he rarely stays on topic, unlike steez.

Joey has also been noted to re-use Steez’s words and wordplay on multiple occasions. “Pass the ? and let me skill it” from the infamous 1 Train verse was actually coined by Steez in his song Chicago. Now that steez has passed on, he can do it without any consequence from his fellow crew member. I wonder how Steez would feel if he heard the “Amethyst Rockstar” chorus.. he also coined the wordplay in there first in his song APEX. RIP STEEZ.
