In the other thread (Where Do You Guys Rank Melle Mel) People said that Melle Melwas a pioneer but rap has advanced since the early/mid 80s. But those same people failed to name an MC that was more advanced than Melle Mel.

Cmon 5 dude gets his props, but do we really have to make a list of more advanced rappers? True sun was ahead of his time, but we're talking 30 plus years if I cant name at least 20 then something is wrong with rap....

Well I was just listening to Power 99 and there's no way you can tell me that today's rappers are more advanced -

Out of everybody you listed I'll use Nas as an example. because I've heard most of his stuff. Nas raps faster (When I made this thread I was thinking somebody would mention Busta Rhymes) I concede that Nas raps faster and puts more words per bar. Butt as far as literary techniques, metaphors, similis, etc. Nas doesn't have anything on Melle Mel.
Most of the other people you named have deeper discographies as rap was more difficult to record in the 80s. But those guys aren't more advanced than Mel and if they are, explain how. -

Bruh, I respect Mel, he's nice, but he's dated. Nothin wrong with that, it's called evolution. Walkmans was the ? back in the G, You can still use one, but ? has evolved. You gotta understand that. But to keep it on subject, Melle Mel can't do this. The metaphors, the wordplay, the rhyme schemes. Lupe got these for days. If Melle Mel all the way black out he can't do this.

That didn't impress me at all.

But all jokes aside, there's no point in you trying to convince everyone about Mel. You grew up with him rapping so you already have a bias on his skills just like we grew up on other dudes so we got bias. Some people my age think Lil Wayne got the hottest bars, I don't agree but I won't be able to chage their mind.
So even if it's true Lupe raps miles around old ass Mel, you'll continue to see him as better. -
