I think Puff was a genius. HE had a major label budget and he got real, street MCs and gave them top notch production. For some reason the backpackers didn't like it.
But he pleased the backpackers too by getting Premiere to produce a few joints for BIG.
At the end of the day you got the best of both worlds. -
Pre-2000's it was dope despite being a small roster. 2000's and on it's basically been a pop label.
-
out of all the 50 artists on that roster only a couple panned out
BIG
112
Faith
Ma$e -
The original Rapin You Records.
-
take that take that

Add Puff Daddy and that's a successful label. You'd be hard pressed to name another label that sold as much.
The only label I can think of that was seeing Bad Boy is Death Row.
also The Lox and Black Rob -

I agree but Bad Boy had a hell of a 5 year run from 94-98
Edit: and Without doing a google search, I think Bad Boy sold more records than Rocafella -
If Diddy would have never stepped in front of a microphone, BadBoy could have been up there with Def Jam & Interscope!

Yeah bb run was great. Admittedly I don't know both of their numbers. I'm just saying Roc a fella was deeper with talent. -

Seemed like for every one successful Bad Boy artist there was four who didn't pan out. We used to play a game at work, name how many acts flopped at Bad Boy. The numbers are crazy. Shyne looked poised to do big things until he went to prison. That was their last shot at having an artist bigger than Diddy himself on that label.

Yo, you couldnt escape Bad Boy for a minute during the mid to late 90's....? go out and you could get a couple hours of strictly Bad Boy....Diddy had R&B and Hip Hop, not too many others did it like that....Was just listening to that MJB, I'm Goin Down remix.....

this could b w any label. U can do the rocafella or death row version of this. I think is bigger than bad boy, rap is not a career w alot of happy endings.
-
Most of them death row dudes besides snoop n dre are broke, dead or in jail. Or on drugs ( shout out to kurupt on vlad tv)
-
G-DEP ALBUM IS UNDERRATED.
-
they had like a 2 year run that's worth anything...other than that puff is not good at spotting talent....if bad boy was an athlete they'd be a first round bust
