OK, I'm hoping to start a new series in OTTB, where not only do we examine the greatest rivalries in professional wrestling, but try to see which sole match brought the best out in both combatants.
So, I decided to start with one of the 'E greatest duels in the Attitude Era: The Rock vs. Stone Cold.

2001: WM X-7 WWF Title MatchI agree. That one brought the best and worst of each other.
The 97 match had Rock with the NoD, so he couldn't be the main focal point.
The 99 WM match was just a classic battle of heel vs. face.
The 03 match was more about the Rock beating Austin at WM than anything else, at least that one had the most dominant finish to it and no interference for anyone.
But the 01' Chip match: two faces goin hard, blood, using each other finishers, Rock kicking out after multiple chair shots. ? could've been Top 5 all time if the screw angle didn't kick in. -
this is tough

2003: WM19 Matchtheir WM19 match was my favorite. the match itself was one of the most hard hitting and physical matches I've ever seen that didn't involve weapons. Maybe it was the stadium effect that seemingly amplified every move. you can literally feel every punch, stomp, or high impact maneuver them two were delivering. and you can see the pain in austins face as he was receiving those rock bottoms. that wasn't just selling. he was hurting
you add J.R.'s commentary, austins legendary entrance, the fact it was austins last match, & the rock finally beating Austin at WM
this was their best encounter imo -
2003: WM19 MatchThe emotion behind it.
Pretty much everyone knew it was Austin's last match so you could get more invested in it. -
