Right. You sound mad....and no....I am definitely not lost on my hip hop knowledge.
We know where their current sound originated.
They still sound like them at the end of the day.
And when cats say New York doesn't or didn't have a sound that is complete and total ? . I could post a thousand different cuts that were POPULAR that all had somewhat of a similar VIBE to them.
I think you get my drift though. Maybe I'm missing something, I don't know.
But that authentic New York sound is gone IMO.

How do I sound mad? I'm just messaging you on a forum. Nobody isn't saying new York didn't have a sound. We're just saying that boom bap isn't their only sound. But my original post is, you're opening post is off, you take legends from 2 decades ago and compare them to 1 current and probably the worst act. Like I said before that's like saying outkast to 2chainz from the south. Or even cube to lil b from the west coast. Mainstream wise EVERY region fell off quality wise -
NY had developed its own new sound but it didn't get the support it needed and it kind off tailed off.

Ray West & O.C. - Have Fun

Action Bronson - Strictly 4 My Jeeps

Pro Era - Rosie at Rubber Tracks

Redman - Dunfiato

So basically you want New York to return to its old sound and go back to dominating hiphop with its lyrics and better songs and vastly superior albums compare to the other regions in America?

I posted this song from the Genius (Gza) from his pre-Wutang days (1991) in another thread. Listen to the beat, the sample, the scratches, and the flow. Who in 2014 is even close to this level?

As far as the new school of MCs goes only a few from NYC stick out to me, Pro Era and Mr. Muthafuckin Exquire. But the vets from NYC are still out there making good music. Nas, Cormega, Saigon(even tho the last album was weak), OC, Pharoahe Monch, Smif n Wessun, Mobb Deep have all dropped quality albums in the last couple years.
My point is, dont act like that Bobby ? is representin NYC hiphop today bc its not. thats just the garbage that made it to the mainstream. -
