This year has been great for hip hop so far. I've haven't heard any trash lately and it looks like things are getting better.

With so many newer rappers actually being complete artists and being able to sing as well as rap basically having a melodic sound and singing the hooks them self as well as more and more actually singing in their verses hell yeah

And u have to give credit to the likes of Eminem, Bone Thugs, Z-Ro, Devin The Dude, ? -C, DMX for paving the way for this for the newer rappers like Rich Homie Quan, B.o.B, Wiz Khalifa

It's creativity rappers that are actually artistic>>>>>>>>>>>

In the 90s real ? got airplay....

? that got airplay was still flashy and materialistic, about females/? or of little substance. U get those exceptions to the rule every now and then.

Hit the googles n check the top 100 radio songs of every year and what were those songs about?

The genre evolved but is still the same. The generation that gets older ? on the generation coming up. 80s cats did 90s cats the same way. The cycle continues.

    Are these guys equal to,

early 80s; Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee, Melle Mel, Kurtis Blow, Spoonie G

Late 80s; Rakim, KRS, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Slick Rick

Early 90s; Ice Cube, Snoop, Treach, Tupac, Method Man

Late 90s; Jay Z, DMX, Biggie, Ma$e, Nas

Early 00s; Eminem, 50 Cent, Cam'ron, Jadakiss, Ludacris

Late 00s; Kanye West, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Drake, Ghostface

Seriously, do you think the guys you listed can hang with the GOATS of other generations?

When i say fave i'm talking about as far as song making, melodies, personal connection to the music, just musically they as well as some of the melodic rappers u named like Eminem, 50, DMX are what i like as far as hip hop the whole package. But as i said in another thread for me song writing>>>>

But i will be the first to admit Nas, Jay Z, Rakim, Biggie, Ghostface, Treach, Bigg Daddy Kane are the best lyricists ever

But people listen to hip-hop for different reasons u gotta remember not everyone favours technical lyricisim first

It comes down to taste and what u look for in a song

    I'd say it is.

The fact it's not the biggest genre sales-wise means that cats get to be more creative with their efforts. The different venues available for music distribution (soundcloud, spotify, etc) mean artists aren't beholden to major labels either. The future's looking good.

Yes it's in a better place than it was in 07 - 10 when the south was running ? with their garbage and bootleg teddy pain autotune. There is really only one direction to move from the dumpster and that's up.

Why does anyone truly care about airplay In 2015, with the internet and being able to find music on our own these days I feel like it's less important

The end of last year and begining of this year has put out some quality material...a bunch of us remember the impact of a lot our favorite rappers, well there's a whole generation looking towards the likes of krit, Cole, and Kendrick as their scarface, Jay-Z, and ice cube

I think if the promising new artists keep putting out good material then hip hop is on an uptick from where it may have been a few years ago
