Tony was a ? up but like many have stated he came from nothing and told people he was going to be big time and he went and did what many said he couldn't. Even if it was for a short period of time and undone by his own recklessness he still did it his way and abided by his own set of a twisted morale code.

It's not my favorite movie but I like it and understand why many like it also.

    again....

he stole opportunities from other people that was loyal to him.

to me he was a very wreckless drug dealer...and should not celebrated ....just looked at like entertainment.

I agree about him reckless as I stated above. LOL. I also said he had a twisted morale code which is where him stealing from the dirtbags he worked for would fall under. LOL.

I also agree that It shouldn't be celebrated but I understand the appeal it has to many.

Tony was kinda dumb and not a great criminal but it's a classic and I love it. Who doesn't like the take no ? from anyone and the "world is mine" attitude. I don't put it in the same category as serious gangster classics like Goodfellas. Scarface is just so over the top it's hilarious

Is that really celebrating or just thinking the character is cool?

Carlitos Way was a dope movie. It looked like it could of been a scarface sequel if Tony got locked up at the end.

It's a pretty wicked performance from Pacino.

Plus it's proof of Biggie's 4th commandment: never get high on your own supply

Cuz that ? did what the ? he wanted to do till the day he died and said ? everyone else. Some people rather be the wolf then be the sheep

If he was killed then he was just another sheep.

It's not about doing what you want, and getting killed.

it's about doing what you want, and thriving.

It is a classic to me whether you want to brand it a "hood classic" or not

I saw it first time in the 80s (4 or 5 years old) with pops and his friend but got to get the story as I developed into an adult

Pacino's acting too was incredible. An Italian (European) playing a Cuban (South American) on screen. That end sequence alone is one of pop culture's GOAT moments

Also we have the never ending debate of immigration tackled in the film

This brings up a good point...

Does this hurt the legacy of this movie by today's standards?

If a new movie came out with the cast playing the role of a person of another ethnicity, would it get a pass if it was a good movie?
