*Sigh* You don't come from my era so I'll explain. R&B singers can get away with it, because their voice is for those that are soulful but can't sing. There are some singers that can write their iiwn stuff. They are the vessel.
Rappers cannot get away with because the talks in rap back then the rules were you don't bite, and you have to write your own ? , or you were not considered a real mc and were not respected by your peers. If it were found out that you didn't write, you had to show and prove or risked being exiled.
Of course there were some shorts writing other people's ? . Big Daddy Kane wrote for Bid Markie and Roxanne Shante, and they are considered Entertainers not authentic rappers. -

Actually I'd say the bigger problem exposed is anybody can say anything w/o proof and people will believe it. Saying a rapper don't write his own ? is a serious accusation. You say some ? like that about anybody you better have some legit proof and not just 140 twitter characters proof either -
