Is it wrong of me to believe that my daughter is black?
I feel like she will struggle more than I ever did with her identity.
With her dad being part white and Mexican... And with my parents being Black Hispanics.... I don't know what she would choose to identify herself as. Definitely Hispanic...there's no denying that. But when it comes to race?....
If she were to ask me I would tell her that she is black. But her dad doesn't think so. He doesn't even know what to call her. He says he will support me with my decision to tell her that she's black though.... And that's all that matters.
What do you ladies think?
@Kat @MzKB @ayebaebae @GunTown
the baby looks Hispanic. From societies stand point they will see her race and ethnicity as Hispanic
I think that, that should have been a discussion to have before bringing a mix raced child into the world
As her parents you have the obligation to teach her about race and ethnicity and figure out what race she is.
But I would tell you to never disown her black race

Hispanic is not a race though..
but i get what you "mean" the observable features are strong. -

You are what your father is
Sooo if you have a black mother and a white father..you're white?
-
Correct -
I don't think I agree with that.
Tbh I feel like how you are perceived is the determining factor of who you are.. -

Yeah. Me neither, but I said it so I have to stick with it.
I got a friend who's half black half white Dominican. He looks like neither, what should he be categorized. There is to much gray area -
You are what your father is
Nah, my mom came out with Picos skin tone and her dad was black. Same with me, though my dad was a dark Latino. My sister actually takes after him. In temperament though both my mother and I have the attitude my grandfather had. My moms brother actually has the skin tone of my grandfather yet has the personality of my grandmother.

@ayebaebae
If someone is biracial like black and white... Aren't they usually just considered black?.. Like Obama?
Yes. I identify myself as black although I am lighter. My mom was black and she had a strong presence in my life, plus society still sees me as black.
Suppose it doesn't matter how you raise her-she is of course your child but don't be fooled by people who act like racism and colorism no longer exist. I see a lot of this ? especially with mixed backgrounds or with a parent that is white-fact is they are raising a black child in the eyes of society no matter how light or how 'good' their hair appears to be.
Glad you are feeling good about you Kha
*yea i know it's the pic thread-bite me.
